For years, dh has led our family in weekly Bible studies. Now that most of our kids are grown, I'm wondering if they should still be made to join in the study, as well as go to church.

I figure, if they're living here rent-free (so that they can pay off college loans faster), at least they can do family Bible study and go to church once a week.

Is that too much to ask?

That my sister is a loaded question- LOL! I have been in the same situation before- teens and young adults can be quite a lot to handle!
We had family studies and group for years and all I can do is tell you how it worked in our home. When our kids got older we simply insisted that they attend church and the rest was an open invitation. In our particular case it seemed the harder we tried to nudge them into something the less inclined they were to comply. That seems to be the norm for young folks as they struggle to find their adult identities and grow out from under their parents wing.
So for us a loving invite, an offer of prayer and support went a lot farther than an insistence.
Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Train them up when they are young, when they are old they shall not depart from it. That does not mention the middle- LOL, and young folks tend to really surprise us sometimes. That being said, now that my kids are getting a little older I do see the second half of that scripture coming to fruition. My kids are seeking God's face more and more and this is happening on their of their own volition.
You and your family are in my prayers.
Many blessings in Jesus wonderful Name,
your brother Larry.
