And while he was still talking with them, there was the messenger, coming down to him; and then [the king] said, "Surely this calamity [is] from the LORD; why should I wait for the LORD any longer?" 2 Kings 6:33 NKJV
Have you ever been so angry or frustrated that you begin to blame God for choices that someone else made? Second Kings 6 offers some harsh words from a human king who questions the integrity of the Lord: “why should I wait for the Lord any longer?”
You may wonder where God is when it seems that the world is falling apart. You struggle when you see people hurting and facing extreme pressure. It could be people who have been evicted from their homes, who don’t have enough food, or who can’t find jobs. It could be a widespread issue, just like it was in 2 Kings 6. You may even demand that God step in and make things better. But trust shouldn’t be replaced by anger, requests shouldn’t be replaced with demands, and mercy can’t be completely disposed of in favor of 24/7 justice.
When the king spoke those words of frustration, God was already at work and change was coming. God didn’t make the mess the king and his people faced, but encouragement was on schedule and would be delivered soon. Don’t give up—wait as long as God needs you to wait. Help is on the way.
Prayer: Help me with patience, God. I don’t like to wait. I need to remember Your answers are coming.
