"I am going the way of all the earth. So you shall be strong, and be a man. "And you shall keep the responsibility [given by] Yahweh your God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, according to what is written in the Law of Moses, that you may be prosperous in all that you do and wherever you turn, 1 Kings 2:2-3 LSB

David was impressive (yet not perfect) in his role as king of Israel. His legacy was rich with trust in his God. Psalm 90 is an excursion to the end of his life. In this passage, he gave a gift—a blessing of sorts—to the son who would be the new king. Solomon had heard many words from his father about God’s faithfulness. David’s parting advice was as strong as just about anything young Solomon had ever heard from his dad. There was a list of things like adopting the legacy of obedience and following God. In his own way David was reminding Solomon that following God faithfully would allow him to prosper in the way God defines prosperity. This advice from an ancient king as one of his final instructions is for you too.

Prayer: Lord God, when my life is nearing an end, may I have the wisdom to tell those I love to follow You. May my encouragement cause them to take heart and learn from You as they walk with You.
