During my quiet time a few weeks back God reminded me about the kingdom principle of giving. I began to increase my tithe every week, increase my giving to others around me, and my generosity in general. I stopped being so guarded, and began to invest in areas I was lead to place my money. I was answered with a report card from the devil. My bank account became overdrawn by an autodraft, and mistake after mistake happened before I realized what had happened ringing up a total of -$300 in debt and growing by $7 a day.
I work for minimum wage, and at the time, my boss was being so stingy about hours that she would get angry at me for working as little as 15 minutes over, and often was docking me time whenever possible (just for reference, 15 minutes comes out to about $2). My bill collectors were hounding me, and loans were threatening to accellorate if I did not pay them. Medical bills were calling, and my peace was being disturbed.
As I continued to give despite the noise, and continued to invest despite the discouragement, something changed. My hours increased to full time status when a coworker could no longer be at work, because of an exam she needed to take to update her certification. A post I made to craigslist for childcare bore fruit, and I was hired to watch a three and five year old a couple times a week. FLOW, the women's ministry at my church, asked me to baby sit once a month for $20. My boss asked me to watch her kids during a special service for $20. My father handed me $200 to get my CNA certification and improve my income. Also on top of it all, I began to get favor in all my interactions. Every facet of my life began to change for the good even though my debt was not immediately abolished.
Then another report card came in. The local kid that cuts my lawn pulled a no show a few weeks in a row, and then gossiped around the neighborhood that I don't take care of my lawn, and now it is so long he won't mow it. My parents brought me a sickle when they came to visit, and while using it I cut my hand badly. That delayed my efforts until my hand healed. We also experienced a heat wave in the 90's and my thick northern blood couldn't withstand working for hours in the sun at those temperatures. I had to wait. The day before I planned to fix the lawn, another neighbor underhandedly filed concerns with the community, and called my realters trying to get me in trouble and rob my wallet. I was given favor with the realters, and time to fix the problem, because despite the attack, the realiters were on my side.
Every accusation is being shot down, every robber stopped, and slowly my finances are growing. My needs are getting met, and some of my wants are beginning to be fulfilled.
The blessings are only starting to flow. I am only seeing the first trickles of what God has planned for me financially, and as I press on despite attack, I find that the blessing grows.
So faithfulness, and taking God at His word is highly effective. How many times do we give up when we are obediant and face opposition? I just want to proclaim God is faithful, and when we are obediant, He will do what He says.
I know this is only a beginning of a praise report, but the beginning fruit is making me exciting about what is to come.
