Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. John 9:3 NKJV

One day, Jesus and His disciples encountered a man who had been born blind. Immediately, His followers jumped to a conclusion: “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” (John 9:2).

Jesus, knowing that the Twelve were wrong in their assumption, corrected their thinking, telling them that the man’s blindness wasn’t the result of any individual’s sin but happened “so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”

It’s sometimes easy to look at our own problems as results of our own wrongdoing, as God’s punishment for our sin. But Jesus’ words in today’s scripture verse suggest that our difficulties can actually allow God to bring glory to Himself.

The apostle Paul wrote: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). That means all things, including our own suffering and hardships.

So when you find yourself in a tough spot in life, ask God to use that situation to bring Himself glory.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to see my own hardships and suffering as opportunities to glorify You and point others to You as I endure those difficulties.
