“Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed;
Save me and I will be saved,
For You are my praise.
Look, they keep saying to me,
‘Where is the word of the Lord?
Let it come now!’
But as for me, I have not hurried away from being a shepherd after You,
Nor have I longed for the woeful day;
You Yourself know that the utterance of my lips
Was in Your presence.
Do not be a terror to me;
You are my refuge in the day of disaster.
Let those who persecute me be put to shame, but as for me, let me not be put to shame;
Let them be dismayed, but let me not be dismayed.
Bring on them a day of disaster,
And crush them with twofold destruction!” (Jeremiah 17:14-18 NASB’95)
When we follow Jesus Christ in walks of obedience to his commands, according to his will and purpose for our lives, according to the calling he has placed upon our lives, and so we are sharing the truth of the gospel of our salvation with the worldly church, and with the world, we will be persecuted. We will be mistreated, falsely accused of wrongdoing, called all sorts of names, rejected, forsaken, and forgotten, as though worthless.
And the closer we get to the return of our Lord, and the more evil the world becomes, and the more worldly the church becomes, the greater will be the rejection and the persecution and the mistreatment that we receive from others, and not just from the people of the world, but from within the gatherings of what are called “churches,” and even by “pastors” of said “churches” who are following the ways of man and not the ways of God.
Who were Jesus’ greatest persecutors and opposition? They were rulers in the temple, teachers of the Scriptures, people of prominence, and Bible scholars who supposedly were worshipers of God. And they fought Jesus. They harassed him, and they tried to trip him up with his words, and they opposed him, and they even accused him of being of Satan. And eventually they had him crucified on a cross, even though he had done no wrong.
So don’t be surprised, if you are following the Lord Jesus wholeheartedly, if some of your strongest persecution and opposition and rejection comes from within the gatherings of “the church,” and not from the people of the world. For so much of what is called “church” here in America are just businesses of human-origin, being marketed to the world. And so many of them have altered the character of God/Christ, of his church, and of his gospel message to make them more attractive and less offensive to the people of the world.
But we are not to fear them. And we are not to hate them, either. We are to love our enemies, and do good to them, and pray for them, and bless them, i.e. say to them what is for their good (good in the eyes of the Lord). We are not to try to get even with them, but we are to treat them with kindness, in return for their mistreatment of us. But true kindness will speak the truth of God’s word in love to them, and it will not approve of or ignore the lies.
We, as followers of Jesus Christ, must dispute the lies of the enemy with the truth of God’s word. And we must teach the truth of the gospel in opposition to the lies, regardless of how we are treated in return. We must not run away just because we are being opposed and attacked and accused falsely of what we have not done or said. For that is what Satan wants. He wants to scare us into deserting our Lord and his calling on our lives.
But we must let that strengthen us all the more, and make us even more determined to get out the truth of the gospel, because so many people are being taught the lies of the enemy, as though they are truth, and so many people are buying into the lies. And so they have a false hope of salvation from sin and eternal life with God, because they are still walking in sin and not in walks of surrender and in obedience to our Lord’s commands.
For the Scriptures teach that genuine faith in Jesus Christ will result in the sinner dying with Christ to sin, and being raised with Christ to walk in newness of life with him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to God and to his righteousness. But if sin is what we practice (our habit), and not walks of obedience to our Lord and to his commands, then we will not inherit eternal life with God, regardless of what our lips profess.

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.
Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
