Alright friends,
So life for me hasn't been all butterflies and roses (whose has!!!) but i can't imagine where I'd be if I hadn't practiced some forgiveness. The practice of forgiveness certainly took me along a lighter and easier path than the one I was heading down. I'm careful not to preach too much about the positive benefits of forgiveness because the "F" word is intimidating enough for some people and the more you talk about it the less people actually feel like forgiving and the more suspicious they become. However, If I hadn't made the emotional choice to forgive then it's highly likely that I'd be dead or in jail by now. I know that sounds a bit extreme/dramatic but forgiveness ( the grace of forgiveness, the choice to forgive, whatever you wanna call it) opened up my future to something I wanted for myself an stopped me from walking a very dark path indeed.
Also on a spiritual note, I feel like forgiveness has provided me protection from many enemies. All this may sound a bit like I've gone a bit sissy/spiritual but no-longer having to live with the results of other peoples thinking/not worrying about enemies or not allowing their behaviour to affect me negatively is a kind of positive side affect that is brought about by forgiving; you could say an easing of psychological burden.
(Edit)
As far as my understanding goes; there are several types of forgiveness that come under two umbrellas. Under the umbrella of "Interpersonal forgiveness" is the act of forgiving others and asking for others forgiveness. The theirs another umbrella that seems to be more theoretical where there are also two other types of forgiveness; self forgiveness and divine forgiveness.
While I have little knowledge of the later umbrella, I have found that practicing some forgiveness towards others and asking for forgiveness from others has changed the world in which I live to an untold degree. I share my musings on forgiveness because I know that other people wrestle with similar issues.
