I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your word. ... My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees. Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver. Psalm 119:67, 71-72 NLT
Most people have experienced imposter syndrome, the feeling that we’ve tricked everyone into believing we’re competent. It hits especially when we’ve just had success—a promotion, a finished project, a relational breakthrough. Something in us calls us a fraud, and the doubt settles on us like a fog.
How do we overcome this tendency? By living with Christ at the center of our lives. Psalm 119:67 suggests that, until we learn to view hardship as God’s method of maturing us, we will fall back on our worst tendencies to define us—perfectionism, the approval of people, the need to be liked.
You belong to Christ by grace alone, and so He has defined your worth: beyond measure. Embrace His love for you, His willingness to die to win you even while you were unredeemed. Let Him set you free. Then, when you pursue excellence, anxiety and fear can’t get a grip on you. You are His, and His providence upholds you at every turn.
Prayer: God, You are sovereign and faithful. You have set me free from all expectations but Yours, and You give me the power to love You as You deserve. Thank You.
