For exaltation [comes] neither from the east Nor from the west nor from the south. But God [is] the Judge: He puts down one, And exalts another. Psalm 75:6-7 NKJV

We men tend to like recognition. If we’ve accomplished something of note, we want others to notice it and call us out by name. And if we’re successful in our jobs, we feel that we deserve a promotion.

Today’s scripture verses, however, tell us that God is the one who exalts. The psalmist Asaph was teaching the proud (and reminding the humble) that their success and exaltation come from the Lord, not as a result of their own ambition and initiative.

If you are successful, even by human standards, it’s a good idea to avoid boasting but instead humbly thank God for what you’ve been able to accomplish. That is part of what the apostle James was getting at when he wrote, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:7).

God isn’t against success or accomplishment. But always remember that whatever good things you enjoy in this life are from His generous hand.

Prayer: Father in heaven, You are in control of all things, including my life circumstances and any success I enjoy. I humbly submit myself to You so that You may do with me as You will.

Do you have any suggestions on how to overcome something like enjoying recognition to embrace humility and walk with The Lord without recognition affecting your humility before Him in any way?

Thanks !

Dear Brother,
Let's see if I can share some with you! Lord willing of course! :)
Humanity in general desires what you have seen even in yourself, I'm sure! There is a desire to be appreciated for what we do. Gosh, none of us are without this desire. I mean who doesn't want to hear these words one day from the Lord "Welcome good and faithful servant"!!!

However, to break myself of the habit of wanting to hear the recognition from others, and not hearing it, to be disappointed or disillusioned, or hearing it and getting a big head, I honestly try, and now a days am mostly successful :(, which is, I give all the Glory to God! If you have a good search engine for your Bible, then try looking for "Give the Glory to God"! You'll find some interesting results. :)

So, I do it almost automatically now, when I get complemented for this or that, I say "Give God the Glory & Praise"! After all that is the truth! I won't be able to do anything that is good without Him in my life! Shoot, I won't know good if not for Him! We are so unaccustomed to say that whenever we hear compliments, that trying it the first time, and to an unbeliever might seem "awkward", but always remember we look for opportunities to share the Gospel, and this could easily be a way of doing so!!! Even when we get the squirrely looks! lol

I know it's rather simplistic, but many of God's ways are simple, but it's man that makes His way too complicated. Give Glory where it is due, and that is to God, and you will find joy in!

With the Love of Christ Jesus.

P.S. You ever notice sports figures when they get interviewed after a win/success? Not all, but many say what? "I thank God" and some even say the name of "Jesus", but usually in the reruns, the networks will cut that out! :( \o/
