“For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God. But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, so that, just as it is written, ‘Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.’” (1 Corinthians 1:26-31 NASB1995)

I am presently recovering from a medical procedure I had done at a hospital yesterday which they term a bronchoscopy (a biopsy). They sent a tube of some kind with a robotic camera down my throat into my lung to take pictures and samples of a lung mass (or nodule) inside my lung which they suspect is either cancerous or has an infection of some kind. I should get the results of this in about 3 days, I think. Right now I am a little bit out of it, I have a slight headache, and I am doctoring a sore throat, but progress is being made in the right direction, all glory, praise, and honor to God alone.

But my calling of God, which is to write down what he teaches me each day from my times with him in his word, and to then place these writings on the internet, is not contingent on me being in good health and not having a headache or any other physical abnormality. If it was, Satan would certainly use that against me to dishearten and to discourage me and to keep me from obeying the Lord. For he preys on our weaknesses in hopes that he can take us down and out so that we will retreat and give into the flesh. And so we must put our faith in the Lord to lead and guide us in these times.

For God did not call us to his service because we are in pristine condition. Now we must be followers of Christ for whom obedience to God and dying to sin is our practice, by the grace of God. But God’s calling upon our lives is not dependent on us having lots of book smarts, or us being popular among the people, or us even being well thought of by many. We may be among the rejected, the forgotten, the forsaken, the ignored, the castaways, and not someone who other humans would have thought of or chosen at all. But God chose us, because then he is the one to get the glory, and not us.

For it is by the doing of God that any of us are of faith in Jesus Christ living holy lives, pleasing to God, in death to sin, and in walks of obedience to his commands. Even the faith to believe in Jesus is not of our own doing; not of the will of the flesh of humankind. But the faith to believe in Jesus comes from God, and it is gifted to us by God, and it is persuaded of God as to his holiness and righteousness, and of our sinfulness, and of God’s requirement that we be crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer as slaves to sin, but as Christ’s servants.

Gospel:[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Revelation 2:1-29; Revelation 3:1-22]

So, we get no credit for any of it! God gets all the credit and all the glory and all the praise. And that’s the way it should be. And so when God calls you to salvation from sin, by his grace, and to living for him, in ways which are pleasing to him, and then he calls you to his service, follow him wherever he leads you. And he will lead you to holy living and to putting sin to death, by the Spirit. But don’t ignore him just because you think you are not gifted in a particular way, for he can gift you in ways you may never have imagined. He definitely has done that with me in miraculous ways.

Most all the things he has been having me do these past 21 years I had never done before. Yes, I had taught the Scriptures for many years, but not on the internet, and not in writing. I had never posted daily devotions on the internet prior to this calling. I had written a few poems early on in my life, but not like the ones he gives me to write, and never this many. Yes, I majored in music in college, and I did write a tune to one of my poems, but I never wrote songs before like these and then posted them on the internet. I had never done video talks before, or written memes, or books, etc.

So if you have never done something before, and it is an area where you believe you lack giftedness, if God calls you, do not refuse him. For he is able to do far beyond any of us can imagine. He can do the impossible. Like when I started college the first time I was reading on a 4th grade level. I got up to 7th grade level, still with a reading comprehension disability. And then God called me to read all kinds of articles on history, science, politics and all sorts of news articles about what was going on in the world, things I would never have touched before, but he gave me understanding of them.

So, just saying here that we should not refuse God because we think we are not qualified for the task. Yes, we must be surrendered to our Lord, obeying his commands, living holy lives, pleasing to him, and he is the one who empowers us to do that, too. But we should not refuse the callings of God on our lives because we think we are not up to the task or because we never did something before. For he can give us all we need to do what he has called us to do, and in miraculous ways we would never have imagined. Then, all the honor, praise, and glory go to God, and not to our human flesh.

Humbly I bow, Lord, before You,
Bringing my requests to You.
May I listen; hear You speaking.
May I follow You in truth.
Gently lead me in Your service.
Guide my steps and strengthen me.
Fill me with Your love and mercy.
May I live for Thee!

Let me be Your servant witness,
Telling others of Your grace.
May I always share the gospel
With those I meet face to face.
May I show the love of Jesus,
Caring for the needs of men;
Be Your servant witness always
For my Lord, Amen!

My desire to be like Jesus,
Living for Him ev’ry day.
May I obey all His teachings
Given me, so I’ll not stray.
Love You, Jesus, Lord, my master.
You are the King of my heart;
Follow You where’er You lead me;
Not from You depart!

May Jesus fill us with his love and wisdom

What you say is so true. That God doesn't call us to have perfect conditions to do his work. And I'm grateful to you that you recognize that for the work that you are doing in the sense of writing down the thoughts that the Lord gives you. Your words are an inspiration for all of us.

In my own type of work primarily spiritual warfare. It's the same thing, God lets me know plainly that the cross which is the spiritual warfare is unceasing. I get woken up at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning to get involved with some spiritual warfare of one type or another. It's written in the scripture in a few places including Isaiah where it says that if God calls you into his service be prepared for an ordeal. Be prepared to suffer on behalf of our Lord Jesus. We live in a world today that hates Christians. If we expect to live luxuriously, and expect that everything will be catered to us then we're walking the wrong path. Being Christian means to be challenged, it means to walk through the fire with our heads High knowing that Jesus Is Our God.

Bill, thank you. That was very well expressed. I appreciate your encouraging words, too. They bless my heart. All glory to God! I can do nothing of this without him. And it definitely has its challenges for certain. God bless you.
