In order to fulfill Old Testament prophecy, Jesus was born into a Jewish family and was a descendant of King David. His mother was a young virgin girl named Mary, and His earthly father was a carpenter named Joseph. He also had earthly siblings.
The Bible shows that family is a big deal to God. Jesus no doubt loved His mother and His earthly brothers and sisters. But one day as Jesus was teaching, someone told Him that His mother and brothers wanted to speak to Him. His response to that request is recorded in the above scripture verses.
Yes, His earthly family was important to Jesus. But He made it very clear that He had come to establish a heavenly family of people who love, serve, and obey God.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I take great encouragement and joy in knowing that I have, by faith, become part of Your eternal spiritual family. You taught that this family consists of those who do the will of their heavenly Father. Thank You for directing me, guiding me, and enabling me to do His will.
