Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. Finding stability and holiness in your life comes from a vigilant outlook that assesses your actions and examines what your heart values. The things you think about will begin to direct your desires and thoughts, and as your desires and thoughts shift, you’ll see the impact in how you live. What you say and how you act will be directed by what’s stored within your heart.
You can gain a quick and accurate assessment of your life’s direction by looking at what you say, how you treat others, and whether your actions are in keeping with God’s best for yourself and your neighbors. Taking honest stock of yourself is the first step toward repentance and holiness. Oftentimes guarding your heart and living in obedience to God simply means minding your own business, avoiding quarrels with others, and looking straight ahead at what is in front of you today.
Prayer: Lord, help me to live simply and honestly, guarding my heart and keeping a close watch on what I say so that I won’t stray from Your paths.
