"May the LORD our God be with us, as He was with our fathers. May He not leave us nor forsake us, "that He may incline our hearts to Himself, to walk in all His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, which He commanded our fathers. 1 Kings 8:57-58 NKJV

Today’s scripture passage is part of Solomon’s blessing over the people of Israel at the dedication of the newly finished temple. In it, Solomon spoke of the people’s ancestors and how they enjoyed God’s constant presence.

It’s no accident that Solomon immediately follows his words about God’s presence with a challenge to the people to obey God from the heart and keep His commandments. It’s as if he was saying, “Since God has promised to be with us always, we should respond by turning our hearts to Him and obeying His laws and commandments.”

Today, you have the privilege of enjoying God’s constant, wonderful presence because of what Jesus accomplished when He died on the cross. His promise to the people of Israel still stands for you today: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

Your gratitude for God’s constant presence in your life should motivate you to live an unshakable life of commitment and obedience to Him.

Prayer: Father, You’ve promised me Your constant and never-ending presence. I choose to obey Your commands, not because I’m afraid You’ll leave me or abandon me, but because I’m so grateful.
