Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! Your enemies cringe before your mighty power. Psalm 66:3 NLT
Today’s scripture must be read in ultimate terms. Not all God’s enemies are currently cringing before Him…in fact, they’re more like the angry nations of Psalm 2, with rulers who “plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one. ‘Let us break their chains,’ they cry, ‘and free ourselves from slavery to God’” (vv. 2-23).
But a day is coming when those who oppose God and trouble His children will regret their folly. “The one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them. Then in anger he rebukes them, terrifying them with his fierce fury” (Psalm 2:4-5). They’ll cringe while the rest of us celebrate.
“Everything on earth will worship you; they will sing your praises, shouting your name in glorious songs” (Psalm 66:4). Note the future tense of those verbs—we are not at present in this stage of history. But Jesus said He’s “coming soon” (Revelation 3:11; 22:7, 12, 20), and the world’s current trajectory seems to indicate His return is closer than ever. All the sin and sadness, fear and frustration of this world will be wiped away. God will make everything right in His good time.
Until then, keep your chin up. God is still in control.
Prayer: Lord, how awesome are Your deeds! Remind me today of Your greatness and goodness.
