"But this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. "No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." Jeremiah 31:33-34 NKJV
After generations of unfaithfulness and disobedience from the people of Israel, the Lord resolved to restore His people once and for all. This was an act of pure grace, but it was the only permanent fix to their centuries of resistance. Even if the Lord had every reason to remember the sins of His people and to hold their sins against them, He wanted to liberate them, to no longer remember their sins, and to give them a path to obedience.
God will also treat you with the mercy and grace he showed His people in Old Testament times. He promises His Holy Spirit to imprint His law on your heart and teach you through his divine power to remain rooted in him. You don’t have to get your act together first—God will do it for you. Restoration comes from God’s initiative. You have the hope of intimacy and peace with God because that is the very thing God desires for you.
Prayer: Help me, Jesus, to remain open to and aware of Your Holy Spirit today so that I may receive Your restoration and mercy.
