And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations. Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, And the sons of the foreigner [Shall be] your plowmen and your vinedressers. Isaiah 61:4-5 NKJV
Isaiah wrote to people who had suffered calamities beyond imagination—losing their homes, their land, and many of their neighbors to a brutal exile. Even after the people of Israel had resisted the lord and sinned over and over while ignoring the warnings of prophets, hope remained because of God’s mercy and desire to restore them. The things that appeared to be devastated and beyond all hope had a chance for a comeback because God had willed it to be so. Restoration is what God desires more than anything else.
Consider the areas of your life where you may also feel like you’re losing hope. The most barren spots are where God will want to bring renewal, new life through the influence of the Holy Spirit. Since your new life is found in Christ, your renewal has more to do with your faith in God’s power than in what you can see right now. With the Lord’s power at work in your heart, you may see blessings and goodness that not only benefit you but also help many others around you.
Prayer: Lord, help me to fully rely on You for my hope and restoration when I feel stuck or hopeless.
