In days of yore, when folk were poor
Their fear of God was real
Each and every Sunday
They'd go to church and kneel
The preacher filled them full of dread
With fire and brimstone ranted
No wonder they thought Father God
Was lack of love decanted.
Years went by, revivals came
Then they went again
Wars were fought and lives were bought
They prayed to God in vain
Although He brought them victory
They blamed Him for the death
Of many, many boys and men
Whose lives ran out of breath.
The sixties came and people blame
Them for the fall of church
Morals went, free love was spent
They left God in the lurch
All you need is love they sang
It seemed that all was lost
Prophets kept things moving
A melting of the frost.
Missionaries came from the USA
To tell of spiritual gain
Signs and wonders followed them
Thus fell a Christian rain
Supernatural healings, prophecy came true
Songs by Graham Kendrick
Brought life to me and you.
Now the armies marching
Shining glorious light
Upon the poor and needy
And those who've lost their sight
We've a great commission
Let's show them what we are
Followers of Jesus Christ
Our only hope, by far.
