"Be of good courage, and let us be strong for our people and for the cities of our God. And may the LORD do [what is] good in His sight." 1 Chronicles 19:13 NKJV
The unsaved world often describes Christianity as a crutch…in their view, faith is simply something that weak people use as a prop.
There is truth in the claim, since we as Christians are weak and need all the support we can get. (This is even more true of unbelievers, though that’s a topic for another time.)
As followers of Jesus, we have come to believe in an all-knowing, all-powerful God who has our best interests at heart. Having reached that point of belief, we can live our lives according to His Word, then say as King David’s military commander Joab did, “The Lord will do what is good in his sight.” We don’t need to stress over every potential outcome, since we know it is in our God’s supremely capable hands.
Human as we are, we’ll sometimes struggle with this off-loading of responsibility. As men, we’re wired to figure things out and fix whatever’s wrong. But many things are truly beyond our ability. Absolutely nothing is beyond God’s. He’ll do whatever is good in His sight, and we can rest easy.
If that’s a crutch, so be it.
Prayer: Lord, life throws many challenges at me. I’m grateful for Your knowledge and power and the fact that You will do whatever is good.
