The LORD has made all for Himself, Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom. Everyone proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD; [Though they join] forces, none will go unpunished. Proverbs 16:4-5 NKJV
For the United States, this first Tuesday that follows a Monday in November is Election Day. For many people, it’s a time of hopeful stress: “I think my side’s going to win!” For a large percentage of the population, Election Day yields the depressing realization that their candidate lost, and their opponents’ ideas will rule the day for months to come.
Public policy is certainly important. But for us as Christians, it can’t be all-consuming. If the results of an election make us angry, dispirited, apathetic, or hateful, we’re forgetting some very important Bible truths such as the prophet Daniel’s assertion that God “deposes kings and raises up other” (Daniel 2:21).
One of those kings God raised up was Solomon, who wrote today’s scripture. And it points out that even wicked people—whether everyday criminals or powerful rulers—will be appropriately dealt with by God in His good time. Our all-wise and all-powerful God will work out everything to His ultimate glory and our ultimate benefit.
No matter who is leading our community or nation, let us humbly and faithfully honor our God. He has everything under control.
Prayer: Father in heaven, please guide our political leaders, and help me to trust in Your ultimate plan.
