How do you know if you are one of God's elect? Is every Christian one of the elect or only certain Christians? What does it mean to be the elect?

Did you ask JESUS into your heart to be savior and Lord? And you meant it? Then you are HIS elect, one of HIS saints.

Elect=
1) picked out, chosen
a) chosen by God,
1) to obtain salvation through Christ
a) Christians are called "chosen or elect" of God
2) the Messiah is called "elect", as appointed by God to the most exalted office conceivable
3) choice, select, i.e. the best of its kind or class, excellence preeminent: applied to certain individual Christians

Saints= 1) most holy thing

Jesus said, for many are called (invited) but few are chosen (elected).

Everyone is invited to know God through the creation of the world.

We are called (invited) to preach the gospel to every living creature. So we are supposed to invite everyone.

This selection from Colossians describes God's elect:

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Do you possess these qualities? It would suggest that you are one of God's elect.

Peter wrote to God's elect that were gentile believers and described them for us:

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

They were elect through sanctification of the spirit which brought them to being obedient unto God and they were given the blood of Jesus to cleanse them.

If this is what is happening to you, then you are probably Gods elect.

Peter also taught that a mans election needed to be made sure:

1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Have you been adding these qualities to your faith or are you one who has forgotten that you were purged of your old sins?

One last true test for Gods elect is persecution:

10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, 11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

All people bearing the name Christian fall into one of two categories. Those who live godly lives and those who do not which includes both unbelievers and believers who are uncircumcised in heart. Those that live godly are persecuted by those who do not. In the end, brother will deliver brother unto death. The above from 2 Timothy is within the context of the perilous days that are prophesied that I am convinced we live in. I have chosen to cleave to the word of God and suffer whatever reproach will come my way that I might save some. I believe with all my heart that I am of Gods elect and am being conformed to the image of his dear Son who will rule over me for ever and ever in a new heaven and earth wherein righteousness dwells. I hope that you are there with me that we might serve one another together in harmony forever. God the Father has promised to come and dwell with us and be God over us with Jesus being subject unto him.

In Jesus Name,

Gary

There is an elect predestined by God from the foundation of the world and there are those who come to Him of their own freewill, and He grants them repentance and salvation.

An example of the elect would be the 144,000 noted in the Book of Revelation.

So the 144000 Jewish people sealed during tribulation are Gods elect?

Curious questions?

How do you know whether you are elect?

By believing in Jesus Christ.

Is there different groups of Christians some elect some not?

Not if they believe in Jesus Christ, after all a Christian
is one whom believes in Jesus. This question is a paradox.

What does it mean to be elect?

There are two verses in Ephesians which I think form a fitting answer
to your question Julie1983.

Ephesians 1:5,
"He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself,
according to the kind intention of His will."

Ephesians 1:11, "also we have obtained an inheritance, having been
predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the
counsel of His will."

Are they not beautiful verses Julie1983?

A very intriguing and tempting question to ask.
But a completely wrong focus if we consider ourselves Christians.

In the Scriptures:

We are told that we are saved by grace through faith in Ephesians 2:8-9 - "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast."

Notice the phrase: Through faith.
This implies us having accepted The Lord as who He said He is. Another passage makes this clear: John 4:10 "Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."

Why do we need to ask for the living water? Why don't God just pour it into our life without waiting for us to ask? Because we are suppose to have a fellowship with God through His Son. (1 John 1:3 "We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.")

That's a fellowship based on our faith in Him.

Therefore you see, the question is not whether someone is part of the elect, rather the focus should be on whether we have (or have not) put our faith in Lord Jesus, in His saving us from condemnation.

If your answer is yes, then follow it up with the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) and keep the focus on being filled with the Holy Spirit and letting others hear the Gospel through your witness (this is called making disciples, not "converting heathens", by the way ).

When you do this, you will no longer be occupied with questions about election, predestination, etc. Rather you would be occupied to grow spiritually, to fulfill what you *are* predestined to be, that is, to be conformed to the image of Christ.

The Elect

Jiggyfly
In this age the body of Christ is God's elect.

The scripture is very clear. "Whosoever............... Whosoever.......Whosoever...... SHALL BELIEVE. We are saved by grace, through faith (What you believe)

And as Jiggyfly said.....................................

If you made Jesus Lord, your in the body, and if in the body, you have a function and call to fulfill being part of a body function. Elect simply means chosen, or chosen to do something. God so loved the World that he GAVE........... Gave to who? The whole World. God first choose everyone, now our turn to choose him and draw close "Neigh" to him and he will draw close "Neigh" to us. Our choice, as God already made his choice.

Jesus Is Lord.

So then God's elect is not just of this age but before this age? This is the age of grace but before Christ God accepted peoples faith. So Abraham is part of the elect. I wonder if there will be elections for the most elect. Just joking lol.
