Gratitude can be a Sacrifice

Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory." Psalm 50:14-15 NLT

Most God-fearing people will admit that, at some point, God has disappointed them. An important prayer went unanswered—or came back with an answer we didn’t like. Without His power and perspective, thankfulness is hard. But such moments are testing grounds for our faith. For some, God’s wait or no is the final straw. That’s a transactional approach to relationship—giving to get—which makes gratitude impossible.

However, God makes it clear that our gratitude is the response He wants—especially when it isn’t easy to be thankful. God owns the cattle on a thousand hills, but our thanks is a meaningful sacrifice that honors Him.

Even when we don’t understand or like God’s response, will we still trust Him? For those who do, it’s a growth moment, an acknowledgment of God’s thoughts and ways being higher than ours and an acceptance that He is still good and still doing good. We are then able to thank Him with full hearts, even in our momentary disappointment.

Prayer: Lord God, even when I don’t get all that You’re doing, I still trust You. I still believe that You are good and You are doing good. Thank You for taking care of me.
