Grief - April 27, 2006

In 2 Samuel, David encounters the deaths of many friends; Saul, Jonathan and all of the many soldiers that died that day. Like David, I have had a friend who died, and it hurts when you wake up every day knowing you cannot see or talk to him anymore.

He died on August 2, 2004, and since that time, I have never been the same. The death of my friend has changed my life; how I look at it and how I live it. His death made me realize life is thin and nobody will live forever. During my freshman year in basketball, he was not there to help me or pass the ball to me, and it really hit me when that part of the season came.

For a while it was as though I had forgotten about God, because of how depressed I was. But having a long talk with my youth director, Pam, helped me see that the Lord was the only way to get through this. I have found God again, and realize that Bruce is now in heaven and he is going to be okay.

I've decided that everything from now on, and for the rest of my life, I will do for God and my buddy, Bruce. Before every game or even just at the start of every day, I pray "Lord, help me get through this day/game." I do the best I can at whatever I'm doing, for God and for Bruce.

Then, I ask the Lord to make this day count, because our days here are numbered.
