Grow Up! - May 27, 2006

"When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways." 1 Corinthians 13:10

When my children were younger, while my husband and I gave them various chores to do around the house so they would learn responsibility, we understood that their abilities could only go so far. However, when they became teens, I expected more from our children because I knew their level of maturity had increased.

Now that Aaron and Lindsey are now nineteen and twenty, their dad and I hold them to greater accountability.

So too does our Heavenly Father understand that, with the passing of time, should also come an increase in learning, wisdom and knowledge, for man cannot stay a babe forever.

Unfortunately, some of us may grow in body and years, yet there is little change in maturity of mind. I am sure we all may know someone who makes the same mistakes year in and year out, blaming their misfortunes on others, and refusing to take responsibility for their own actions and behaviors.

My dear friends, today is the day to grow up and set aside that part of us whose immaturity is keeping us away from God and godliness.

I would rather stay a child :)

Matthew 18:1-6

1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, "Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"
2 And He called a child to Himself and set him before them,

3 and said, "Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

4 "Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5 "And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me;

6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

Hi Teraside,

I believe that in those verse is that we are to be like a child when it comes to trusting. Children when they are young - trust wholeheartedly. No questions ask. Also we as mature Christians should be a help to children and help them to grow in Christ and not stumble.

But what Chad is talking of is growing. Not being stagnate in our walk - constantly growing in Christ. That is what I want more of Him and less of me. To grow, to mature ...........to be all that I can be for Christ. Stagnation is a horrible place to be in. The definition of stagnation is:

"a condition of no movement, activity, development, or progress, or the process of becoming like this"

Chad's quote: "My dear friends, today is the day to grow up and set aside that part of us whose immaturity is keeping us away from God and godliness." Amen.

Love,
Snowrose

Maturity is a, I almost said 'fruit of the spirit' but it isn't listed. However believe me it is in there. Maturity does take time, years. "When I was a child, I spake as a child................now I have put away childish things" said Paul. Discipline is a biblical principle.

If we could return to the intuition that discipline affords, the West would return it its former foundations to some degree.........

Amen brother Stephen. In my experience, some things take years for us to mature. Sometimes we can mature from other matters over night. All in all, the maturity process in general is a life time process.

Praise GOD for His enduring love and patience with us
