On Oct 31 The Druids worshipped the sun god and they went to houses asking for a gifts for their god. If they didn't give them one they threatened them or pulled pranks on them - in others words they'd play a TRICK on you if you don’t give them a gift (TREAT) for a sacrifice to their god. The Celtics also believed that night the souls of the dead returned and possessed bodies. It was common in ancient times to wear costumes when they communicated with the spirits. Later the Roman Catholic Church changed all saints day to Nov 1, when they prayed for the dead saints. So the eve before they called a “hallowed evening” = ( hallow e'en) or All Hallows day. Most Celts would not stop their practices when they became part of the church. God hates a mixture. Trying to combine the two does not work.

I Cor. 10
20We cannot take the things of the devil and offer them to God. The sacrifice of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be partakers with demons.
21You cannot drink of the cup of the Lord and demons too. You cannot have a part in the Lord's table and the table of demons.
22 Are you trying to arouse the Lord's jealousy?

Acts 19
18And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.
19Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
20So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

Halloween is the devil using people to cause trouble, harass, play evil tricks and pranks, cast spells and such. It is not really about children. The parents are blinded, unknowingly allowing them to join in the works of Satan, who releases his evil at this season. The enemy does all he can to deceive children at a young age, who are so impressionable, and uses peer pressure to make them feel they are getting left out if they cant participate. He gets them involved in the occult by bombarding them with such things are Harry Potter, and the majority of the tv programs today and movies, which are laced with the occult .

Anyone who has been delivered from these things, can honestly tell you this is not just innocent fun. It is opening the door to the enemy to influence theses young minds, until finally they will need deliverance to be set free. Unfortunately many get too deeply into it to seek deliverance. People think nothing of celebrating halloween , playing with the Oijah board, tarot cards, going to seances, getting involved with fortuntellers, palm reading. pyschics,, spiritism, ,casting spells. All these kind of things are an abomination to the Lord .

Why would a person who loves the Lord want to play a trick or do evil to anyone for any reason? That is not God's way-we are to love, forgive, and blesses those who curse us. If we have received Jesus as our Lord then we want to do what is pleasing in His sight.

12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you
13 You must be blameless before the LORD your God.
14 The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.

In this month of October satanists fast and pray for tragedy and evil to come upon all Christians and especially ministers of the gospel. They also zero in on breaking up marriages. And finally their most important day of the year , their High Day, is Oct. 31 when all evil is unleashed.

God said Israel and Judah played the harlot committing adultery with false gods. As Christians we cannot in any way, get involved with any spirit other than the God’s Spirit, or
it is spiritual adultery! We cannot play around with familiar spirits, it defiled us. We must be pure and must remain faithful to the Spirit of God. We know our God is the only true God and all others are idols. If it is not God’s Spirit, it is the spirit of the devil. Whether unknowingly or in disobedience, you are allowing the enemy into your life , bringing a curse and destruction upon you and even your family, by partaking of such things.

Thats what churches used to do....... door to door witnessing. Not many do that anymore.

Now wouldn't that be a switch , as well as a shock to the community, if every Christian went all over town on Halloween , showing God's love and giving THEM something- a Bible or a salvation tract. LOL

Celebrate Halloween?

Halloween is celebrated by millions of people as a fun time for kids, putting on costumes, and going door-to-door to get candy. But it is also known as a time of witches, ghouls, goblins, and ghosts. On one hand, some see it as a harmless time of fun and on the other, a ghastly and demonically inspired night to be avoided.

As Christians, there is a lot of debate on whether or not we should participate in Halloween. Is it alright to go trick-or-treating? Can we dress our kids up in costumes on that day? If we do any of this, are we celebrating an evil holiday?

Halloween's Origins

The word Halloween is derived from the term "All Hallows Eve" which occurred on Oct. 31, the end of summer in Northwestern Europe. "All Saints Day," or "All Hallows Day" was the next Day, Nov. 1st. Therefore, Halloween is the eve of All Saints Day.

Apparently, the origins of Halloween can be traced back to ancient Ireland and Scotland around the time of Christ. On Oct. 31st, the Celts celebrated the end of summer. This was important because it was when animal herders would move their animals into barns and pens and prepare to ride out the winter. This was also the time of the crop harvests. This annual change of season and lifestyle was marked by a festival called Samhain -- pronounced 'sow-ane' and means 'end of summer.' Sow rhymes with cow.

There was much superstition associated with this time of change including the belief in fairies, and that the spirits of the dead wandered around looking for bodies to inhabit. Since the living did not want to be possessed by spirits, they dressed up in costumes and paraded around the streets making loud noises to confuse and frighten the spirits away. In addition, the new year began for the Celts on Nov. 1. So, the day of Samhain was believed to be a day that was in neither the year past or the year to come. Since it was in between, chaos ruled on that day. Often, people would pull practical jokes on others as a result.

Later, around the 5th century, as the Catholic Church developed and moved into the area, instead of adding a new day to celebrate, it took over the Samhain celebration. Nov. 1st became "All Hallows Eve" where all the saints of the Catholic church were honored. A later custom developed where people would go door-to-door on Nov. 2, requesting small cakes in exchange for the promise of saying prayers for some of the dead relatives of each house. This arose out of the religious belief that the dead were in a state of limbo before they went to heaven or hell and that the prayers of the living could influence the outcome. This may have been the precursor to Trick-or Treat.

The Jack-0-Lantern apparently comes from Irish folklore about a man named Jack who tricked the devil into climbing a tree. Once the devil was in the tree, Jack carved a cross on the trunk, preventing the devil from coming down. The devil then made a deal with Jack to not allow Jack into hell after Jack died if only Jack would remove the cross from the tree. After Jack died, he couldn't go to hell, and he couldn't go to heaven. He was forced to wander around the earth with a single candle to light his way. The candle was placed in a turnip to keep it burning longer. When the Irish came to America in the 1800's, they adopted the pumpkin instead of the turnip. Along with these traditions, they brought the idea that the black cat was considered by some to be reincarnated spirits who had prophetic abilities.

So, it appears that the origins of Halloween are a mixture of old Celtic pagan rituals superstition and early Catholic traditions.

What does the Bible say about Halloween?

What does the Bible say about Halloween? Nothing. But it does speak concerning witches, the occult, and paganism. Exodus 22:18, You shall not let a witch live. Deut. 18:10-12, "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD…"

The Bible definitely speaks negatively about occultic practices, spirits, and witches and condemns not only the practice but also the people who are involved in it. As Christians, we are to have nothing to do with the occult. Tarot Cards, contacting the dead, séances, lucky charms, etc., are all unbiblical and can harm a Christian's fellowship with God and open the Christian to demonic oppression. Most Christians know this and avoid these activities. But, the question still remains. Since there are ancient pagan connections and present occultic connections, what is the Christian to do?

Can the Christian celebrate Halloween?

The answer is simple: Yes and No. Let’s look at the negative first.

The Christian is not to be involved with or support the occult, witchcraft, demonism, or any other thing that uplifts the occult. To do so is to contradict God’s word, dabble in demonic spirits, and invite judgment from God. If a Halloween celebration is centered on demons, devils, spirits, etc., I would say don't have anything to do with it.

On the other hand, it isn't wrong to dress up in a costume and go door-to-door saying 'Trick or Treat." Provided that the costume isn't demonic, I can't see anything wrong with this. It's just fun for the kids.

Take a look at the Christmas tree. It was originally an ancient fertility symbol. Yet, it has become a representation of Christmas and the place where gifts are placed. Are the Christians, then, paying homage to an ancient pagan fertility god? No. Not at all. They do not consider it pagan at all and are simply joining in on a cultural event and giving no honor to anything unbiblical.

In the Bible in 1 Cor. 10:23-33, Paul speaks about meat sacrificed to idols. This meat was often sold in the meat market and the question arose, "Should a Christian each such meat?"

Paul said in verse 25, "Eat anything that is sold in the meat market, without asking questions for conscience' sake." This is most interesting. He says it is okay to eat the meat bought in the market place even though that meat may have been sacrificed to idols.

Then in verses 28-29 he says, "But if anyone should say to you, 'This is meat sacrificed to idols,' do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for conscience' sake; I mean not your own conscience, but the other man's; for why is my freedom judged by another's conscience?" (NASB). Paul is saying that if you find out the meat was sacrificed to idols, don't eat it -- not because of you, but because of the other person. In other words, eating that meat won't affect you. But, it may affect the attitude of another who does not understand the freedom the Christian has in Christ.

Is it any different with Halloween (or Christmas)? No. Even though Halloween has pagan origins, because of your freedom in Christ, you and/or you kids can dress up in costumes and go door-to-door and just have fun. However, if you are not comfortable with doing this, then you should not. If you know of a person who would be stumbled by doing it, then you shouldn't either.

Gloria, that would be awesome. I think I'll do that with a couple of friends when I'm older, but I know my parents wont let me out at this age.

Like I said in the first post why would a person who loves the Lord want to play a trick or do evil to anyone? " Saying "treat or Treat" is saying I will play a trick on you if you dont give me a treat. That is not a Christ like attitude and Christ would not say that. We are to be like Him and say what He would say. We are to say what we mean and mean what we say.

This is adapting their customs to try to make them acceptable, giving in to
pressure to conform to this world and its ways. We are not to learn the waysand customs of the heathen. Its not just fun but leads to other things not acceptable to God. Pagan practices are, as you said, are "detestable to the LORD…"

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

Galatians 5:13
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

What is the flesh? The opposite of what the Spirit of God wills. What is His will? He tells us in His Word, which I have mentioned in the first post and other threads. I repeat, trying to combine the two does not work.

I Cor.

Trick or Treat!

Hi All,

'Trick or treat' holds a number of snares as it takes over from bonfire night and worse in England!

It is a good training ground amongst the children in criminal activity as to the following,

1. Blackmail! By threats and intimidation to demand monies or we will do this and that in retaliation!

2. Attempt, or actual Robbery with threats of violence whilst stealing money from the person!

3. Criminal assault by this year throwing Halloween eggs sold at one of our best known American owned Hypermarkets. Good mind to move my business away from them this year!

4. Going in the night with ones face covered. That one used to be section 4 of the Vagrancy Act 1824. Hence the reason for performances of songs and poems whilst masked up! Otherwise it would be simple Begging!

5. Criminal damage to property and motor vehicles!

I'm not even going to go on with this list, Oh yes in my city some little treasure pushed a Chinese illegal rocket through the letter box of a man living by himself last year. He died in the fire and the little precious responsible is now on a charge of murder.

I here that it is all right to trick or treat. Who said this I wonder? That which needs to be done in the cover of darkness speaks for it self.

How fortunate are we that we do not need to hide in the darkness, For Christ is the light of the world,

22. "I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

23. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

24. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendour into it."

The rest of this Chapter is sobering reading and thankfully puts this witches brew on the 31st. October into it's proper perspective I think!

I believe England in particular needs special prayers at this time as I hear the sheep bleating. The sheep do not belong to the LORD at this time but we live in hope of witnessing to these lost souls before they stand in the Glorious Light of the Resurrection!

Yours in His Name, "There He was transfigured before them, {Peter, James and John.}. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus."
[Mark.9:2-4 NIV.].

Well today is the day... My kids stayed home from school mostly because I was to ill to drive them (different story). I wrote letters to their teachers and informed them of my beliefs and how my children were not going to participate..My daughers class party was on friday and we picked her up from school before they started...

Hi all,

I was very interested in the posts above but without wishing to state the obvious
the phrase "shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted" springs to mind.

Members of my family have fallen out with me over this and are not speaking to me because I feel my children should not attend 'halloween' parties. I believe in giving children the opportunity to have fun in a safe environment where the focus isn't the devil, demons or witches etc... With 'halloween' parties being planned for children as young as nursery school age, with manufacturers and countless others standing to make a heck of a lot of money out it and with other countries celebrating it that didn't previously, I feel it is a rather worrying time we are living in.

My family don't see the harm in Halloween but I have a different opinion. It's a sign of the times we are living in. For many people it has nothing to do with believing in Christian or pagan ritual. Unfortunately, for many they are so without any faith or belief in anything thing, you may as well talking about little green men at the bottom of the garden!

May the Lord watch over and keep you safe on this especially dangerous night.

Praise the Lord for all of you who will not compromise God's principles and take a stand for Jesus and His Word, against the evil of this season..

Please spend every moment possible today and tonight in interceesion.
Thank you and God bless you!.

yay, no school for me today. it's been a family tradition to stay home on halloween. even though it was broken for a little bit, but this year we all stayed home. it was funny because this teacher calls and says, "if your kids stayed home because of Halloween, take them to school because we aren't celebrating it." I was all too bad, we're staying home. but it's great though.

Halloween!

Hi All,

Don't anyone talk to me about halloween!

My home has been under attack for an hour by ten or more yobs who think Satan is great and several criminal acts were committed.

But my God is good and has use the situation to witness to some of them and has shown that before next year we should all be putting Bible tracts through our local neighbourhood doors. But not just against this apparent display of Satanic Worship but to say that Jesus Saves!!! ...................................

Now I really do need to write and say to myself,

"Come now, let us reason together,"
says the LORD.
"Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool."
[The LORD,Isaiah.1.18, NIV, Praise the Lord!!! .........................].

Yours in His Loving-tender-kindness,

Colin2000.

Blessed be the Name of the LORD.
