Hang in There - January 15, 2006

Once again, I found myself outside, sitting on the swings, in front of our house. I had the great pleasure of watching my little brothers playing outside as well.

After we had been outdoors for around thirty minutes, Isaac decided that sitting beside me wasn't too entertaining, so he decided to travel over to the side of the fence, where the little slide is.

There are three steps you have to take to get to the very top, and Isaac easily made it up with no problems at all. He slid down a few times and Josh followed right behind him. Isaac even decided that the little puppy, Jack, would want to go for a ride too.

Well, after sliding so many times, it only remains fun for a little while. Isaac sawsaw that there was a branch up above him that was within his reach. He paused for a few seconds, debating whether or not it would be safe to hold on. Slowly, he reached one hand out, tested it, then reached the other hand out and grabbed a firm hold on the branch. Being at the very top of the slide, he let go and quickly found himself dangling a mere five inches above the ground. What a thrill!

After one try, and knowing that he would be safe, he trusted that the branch wouldn't let him down.

In the same way, we can reach out to Jesus Christ, everyday, knowing that we have nothing to fear.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 tells us: "Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful (it has no worries) in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit."
