A friend of mine told me his story of an experience with a haunted house.
He is 75 years old and an Anglican church member. Christian for 45 years. Owned a house that he let out to a person who was convicted of murder. Turned out that this individual was in the occult and had practiced witchcraft and what not else in the house. There was a very eary feeling in the house. He let the house out to a new tenant without mentioning anything about the murderer. The new tenant lasted a week in the house and said they saw things flying in the kitchen at night. My friend approached his pastor for assistance. The pastor refused to assist and said it's not his field of expertise. My friend approached a captain in the police force, a speciality unit that dealt with the occult for advice. They told him that another suspect with red hair still had keys to the house and may want to return to it, so it may be dangerous to go back to it in the near future. They also said that they often ask Catholic priests to assist with exorcisms. My friend approached a priest who obliged and went to the house. He came out stating that there were many demons in the house and that they did not want to leave. He refused to go back again. The house remained unlet and unsold for a quite a while as my friend had to state its history to new owners due to the suspect that may return to it. It was eventually sold and that is the last of his dealings with it. He told me how frustrating it was to be a Christian and unable to cast the demons out of the house. He was disappointed with his Anglican pastor and unimpressed with the priest. At least the priest took a stab at an exorcism, but for some reason refused to close out on it.

My thoughts are based on three passages of scripture:
1. In Mark 9 Jesus was able to cast a demon out of a boy. But the disciples needed prayer and fasting Mark 9:28-29 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
2. Matt 8:28-34 Jesus cast demons into swine.
3. 1 Tim 5:22 Lay hands suddenly on no man.
As such I believe God does not want us going around harassing demons. If they are in a house, put incense and stuff up, sure, but also give them time to leave. If we come across as arrogant ''chosen by God'' individuals, we could be out of God's will and not have His 'full' protection? Jesus loves swine and yet cast demons into them knowing they would drown themselves. Jesus honoured their request to be cast into swine. What would your 'cliched' charismatic Matt 7:22 Christian have done in such a situation? I don't believe we realise that there are complexities to exorcism. It is not always as simple as ''leave in the name of Jesus''. I believe we need to show a little respect to demons when exorcising them, as Jesus did when He cast them into pigs. Not ''a lot'' of respect, but a little. Don't ''bash the door down'' with them.
Anyway, would love to hear your thoughts.
