Hello Brother and Sister in Christ,

Im work for the group home, I have so much compassion for my clients, which they are the mental illness/ mild mental retards and deaf. They are so sweet, wonderful people. I have a question that I have been trying to find for an answers from the bible. Which I know about everyone are born died (spiritual dead) by sin since Adam and Eve and need to accept Jesus into our life, and accept Him as our Savior and King then we are reborn in spirits. How about those mental challenging people, they doesnt understand from between bad and good, has very basically communication. Do they still must to know (accept) Jesus in that way to be saved, right? Someone told me that it is God's grace for them and can go to heaven, since they has no knowledge of evil and good. Can anyone help me with this?

Thank You and God bless everyone!
Dav

I believe they have the grace of GOD on them automatically because they do not know any better but are rather (or likely) victims of their ancestors sins. At the same time, the other possiblity is this:

John 9:1-3
Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

1As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. 2And his disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" 3Jesus answered, "It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.

Now the above might be difficult to grasp when speaking of mentally challenged people. I have never heard of any miracles of a mentally challenged person becoming "normal" so to speak, to be quite honest.

From my experience of working with children who have disabilities, yes there can be times when their sufferring is hard to come to terms with.

God does not do evil though. Although God has divine providence, there is an order of nature with absolute laws. God being omnipitant can intervene but the natural laws were created by him for the universe to have order.

Each action we do whether innocent or not has a cascading effect, the natural order and cascading effect from this surrounds every part of our world down to the smallest microbe.

God has eternal forsight of all events, he knows the outcome already of things that we cannot comprehend and of things that have not yet come to pass.

The world our God has created is heartbreaking, fascinating and marvellous all in one,

Jesus knows who has been truly righteous, he knows those who have have had the chance to choose and those who have not and through the grace of God those people will be rewarded fairly and be given salvation.

I think that we still have a responsibility though to evangelise to everyone. A scientific test done on a coma patient recently established that the patient could imagine the things that were said to them despite having damage to the brain. If this is true then that means that the bible could be reaching more people than we think. It is worth knowing that with permission, your clients may gain great benefit from having bible stories read to them and communicating the bible message in whatever way possible.

God Bless

Eve

I want to say that I'm fascinated and blown away by your response sister Eve! Excellent and thoughtful for sure. I agree with what you've expressed. The coma matter is something I was never aware of and if that is true, I say by GOD's grace it is!

We can be absolutely sure that Jesus will do what is righteous and just. We know that His heart is filled with all compassion towards these people.

Also it is helpful to remember that people receive Jesus through the Spirit of God. And it is the spirit that is rebirthed not the brain. It is assuredly possible for the mentally retarded to be moved upon by the Spirit in the spirit of the person without ever mentally being able to express what has happened. Even babies receive by the Spirit. John the Baptist was not even born when he leaped in the womb as the Spirit moved upon him. So I think it very important to remember that salvation is a work of the Spirit. And He is not necessarily dependent upon the ability of the brain. So I say indeed speak of Jesus and share truth and love. And trust the Spirit of God to apply as He sees fit.

Years ago I read a book by Joni Ericson Tada. In it she says that same thing about people in comas. She said something like "our spirit hears", it's been so long since I read the book.

So I guess that even if someone is mentally handicapped or in a coma, their spirit would hear the message.
