Okay, so I need some scripture and some opinions please. I know a person who drinks a beer or two or four every night after work. He believes (devoutly) that there is nothing wrong with this.

I say there is something very wrong with feeling the need to consume alcohol every day.

The person is well versed and a believer. He says:
1. The Bible speaks against abusing alcohol/getting drunk (and he doesn't get drunk)
2. Jesus drank wine (Oh, okay of course, why didn't I think of this?)
3. He does it in the comfort of his home and causes no one to stumble.

During heated debates about why this IS NOT okay with me, I can come up with nothing more witty than, "Just Because!" I have listed the reasons I feel it it wrong which are: You are using alcohol as comfort instead of letting God fill this need, You are being a bad steward of your money, You are setting a horrible example to your children.

Maybe b/c I am the one getting so irritated (I'm sure you can't tell :) I guess I am losing my temper and need some help from you all. I need THE WORD to back me up. I'm sure this isn't the first time you have discussed this situation, but any advice is welcome.
Thanks TJ!

Ok I can tell you this that prayer is what this situation calls for! I dont know what else to say I am sorry sister. I have many opinions but mine doesnt matter! Seek guidence from God ! God Bless!

Finally a reply! Thank you Jesuslovesu. Difficult situation, but God will give me the answer. GBU for responding.

girlforgod, it`s one thing to have 'personal convictions' about matters pertaining to christianity, and that`s perfectly fine, but another matter
altogether to try to make someone agree with your convictions just because you do or do not 'like' something. The believer you are referring too, obviously has good understanding of what the Word has to say about this matter, and it does not condemn him.

girlforgod:

I understand your concerns. I will pray for you.

1 Thessalonians 4:2-11, NKJ: "For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a theif in the night. For when they say, 'Peace and safety!' then sudden destruction come upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helment of the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing."

Dr. Aly Bon Vie

It is hard to convey a situation in its entirety with a few words on a thread. Perhaps I have not illustrated the situation correctly. This person knocks back something short of a six pack of beer every single night. In addition, he doesn’t feel he can go without doing this.

So basically, this is an addiction. No addiction is glorifying to God. He has asked me for scripture pertaining to this situation. I also would like it to pray and meditate on, not to throw in his face. Any constructive advice and scripture from my peers is welcome.

Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. Col 3:1-5

Scripturally, drunkeness is a problem not drinking.

Scripturally, the 'heated debates' are also a problem.

Since he is a believer; if his drinking is a problem with God, then God will most certainly deal with him on it.

Per our sister's request this is now locked. All things past, GLORY future with GOD :)
