I enjoy christian music and find it very entertaining and a good alternative to the hollywood mess thats out there.

My one concern is are we using music to replace the spoken word of the gospel. I'm not saying music can not change people and I know this. I was worship leader and I know the power music can have on you. Music is and will always be a powerful tool for good and bad.

So let me know what you think and if you believe christian music have replace the gospel ?

The question is not about whether christian music is good or bad, take that discussion else where on a new thread.

I don't understand some of it, but I do make a connection.
A lot of us sometimes can sing in church, but hold back for God.
Then our faith becomes dull and watery, and we just end up singing
in church, sitting down, half listen to the gospel, and head home.
At one point I would sing songs all the time about love and mercy,
and forgot all about God's justice and holiness.
It really depends sometimes I guess.

Christian music seems to directly apply to this topic so I will focus on that. :D

I think that this type of music doesn't exactly replace the gospel, but allows us to express it in just a different way. I mean, after centuries of just talking about it...lets make some music! It's just a different way of showing praise and worship to God. :D

Jesus said to those who followed Him, "Go and preach the gospel to all men......" Forgive me when I say that I have packed the building preaching the gospel through the power of the Holy Spirit.

This is the basic Christian message and can never be replaced.......Jesus.

I enjoy listening to talented folks who can play and minister through music. The bible does say "let him play skillfully"

Good Question

In some instances I believe it has. The question also assumes that the gospel is not being communicated musically thereby leaving a void in teaching. I think applying Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Can be of use in conjunction with study, 2 Tim 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. to provide one with the ability to communicate the gospel in more than one approach without taking away preaching which is what I assume you mean by “gospel” in your question.
A lot really depends on whether the music is being used as the primary means to communicate the gospel, which of cause will go against Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Whenever a question has me praying & researching the word, I can say in all honesty “Good Question”
Thank-you Sister.

At my church, we start off with some great music by the church band for 30 minutes and then hear the gospel from our pastor.

I think the music is a great warm-up to what we are really there for and to love Jesus also through music. I prefer to go to a church WITH LOTS of music. I just love gospel music.

I voted No

Some music that claims to be Christian is not at all. Just musicians that couldn't make it mainstream chose to go "Christian" for the money. It happens more than you think.. But there are those that truly love God and their songs are inspired and minister to the souls of those that are in love with Jesus. True Christian music doesn't "replace" the Gospel but is a tool God can use especially music whose lyrics are scripture.

If you are asking if more emphasis is placed on music than on the preaching, in some cases, in some churches, sadly, the answer is yes. There are a lot of churches out there that focus so much on drawing in people with the music that the actual preaching is secondary. They call it trying to reach the "unchurched"...people who wouldn't normally come to church, but some churches think they can get them in door with cool music and gimmicks. That is what's happening a lot in the emergent church movement and with some of the seeker sensative churches. They feel as though the masses would be bored with a lot of preaching, so they use music, modern dance, drama skits, and other things to try and reach them.
