Have tongues been stilled?

Hello brothers and sisters! how are y'all doing ? okay well, my friend is from the church of Christ and she believes that speaking in tongues doesn't "exist" anymore but I know first hand that they do.
What makes them (being members of the church of Christ) think that?
Am I correct in saying that Jesus himself said that we will all speak in tongues?
I am confused at this.
She often uses 1 Corinthians 13:8 that says that when perfection (she says that that perfection is the Bible) tongues will be stilled. But I see it as perfection being Jesus thus prophecies and tongues and knowledge will pass away when Jesus comes.
Can someone please help me out with this?
I hope that this is understandable, if it's not than tell me and I can clarify it :)
Thank you all and have an awesome God blessed day

I believe 1 Corinthians 13:8 is saying, when we are in heaven the use of tongue will not be needed. I believe you're right. It's hard for people to believe in tongues now days because so many so called Christians are abusing the gift and a lot are using it not with the spirit of God but with other spirits. Remember the Bible tells us that God is a spirit, so not ever spirit is from God. This gift was also abused in the church of Corin. Remember to always trust in God because man will fail us sometims. Peoples interpretations will not always be right, that's why God tells us to search the scriptures daily. I hope this helps. God Bless

1 Corinthians 13:8
"Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away."

John 4:24
"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."

Psalm 118:8
"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."

Acts 17:11
"These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." KJV

Is that a mormon church you are talking about. As they have wrong beliefs and use their own bible.

1 Cor.13

8Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. As for prophecy ([d]the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), it will be fulfilled and pass away; as for tongues, they will be destroyed and cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away [it will lose its value and be superseded by truth].

9For our knowledge is fragmentary (incomplete and imperfect), and our prophecy (our teaching) is fragmentary (incomplete and imperfect).

10But when the complete and perfect (total) comes, the incomplete and imperfect will vanish away (become antiquated, void, and superseded).

11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; now that I have become a man, I am done with childish ways and have put them aside.

12For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection [of reality as [e]in a riddle or enigma], but then [when perfection comes] we shall see in reality and face to face! Now I know in part (imperfectly), but then I shall know and understand [f]fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been [g]fully and clearly known and understood [[h]by God].

13And so faith, hope, love abide [faith--conviction and belief respecting man's relation to God and divine things; hope--joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation; love--true affection for God and man, growing out of God's love for and in us], these three; but the greatest of these is love.

God bless

Tongues have not been stilled, as I see, and know it.

"The promise is to you and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LOrd our God shall call"

Quote taken from the preaching of Peter on the day of Pentecost Acts 2:39
I consider myself to be among that company. Those called of God.

In Acts ch 19 v 2 The Apostle Paul came across a company of believers and challenged them with the words "Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed"?

A language heaven heareth, though to earth unknown, Sweet comminion Holy union, God and His own.

Mark 16:17 And miraculous signs will follow to those believing these things: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak new tongues;

Act 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,

Act 19:6 And as Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

1Co 12:10 and to another workings of powers, to another prophecy; and to another discerning of spirits; and to another kinds of tongues; and to another the interpretation of tongues.

1 cor 14 has a whole section on the use of toungues.

Ask your friend if she believes that the bible is the word of God and all true.

Get her to read these verses
Ask her if it were not important and for use for the rest of the time until Jesus returns then why would God talk so much about it in His Bible?

God, Jesus and the Holy Spirirt never change, nor do their ways, what was in the apostles day is still today!

Last Sunday a.m. we were thrilled to have a Pastor and his wife visit, and to preach at my church, from Australia. I say thrilled because over 40 years ago he and I preached together in the U.K. In the sixties, along with his family he went to Pastor a church in Western Australia.

The meeting progressed, as Pentecostal meetings do.......When he took the platform to minister, after formal introductions, he mentioned how pleasant it was to hear tongues and interpretation, also prophecy in the meeting.
Saying that In Australia, in Pentecostal meetings it was rarely heard.

Paul said to Timothy......"stir up the gift within you which you received by the laying on of hands"

The first, the early church, as it is referred to, began in tongues of fire, and baptism of fire. Unless this anointing is retained.....we fall to the level of world religions.

Hey thank you all. It's great to have backup on this :)
I was reading up on it on the internet and I came across this man quoting Acts 2 and it made me think of that if God IS the same yesterday, today and tomorrow then certainly he would do as he did back then.
I had made links between nowadays when people get baptized in the Holy Spirit and when the Holy Spirit filled the apostles on the day of pentecost and they all spoke in new tongues. The same happens now.
God is great Amen?
AMEN! thank you all very very much :D
Have a good God blessed day

"we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" (Acts 2:11b)

This was probably not the Apostles speaking in tongues. This was what you might call a "Miracle of Languages", in which the Apostles spoke in their native Galileean tongue, but the words went into the ears of each of the hearers in their native tongue.

SLE

Well personally I would have to look into it more but I think in that verse is talking about when God is all there will be one language and all the imperfect languages will be forgotten.

So, speaking in tongues is just another word for speaking in a different language, right?
And that is why when we speak in a different tongue we need to make sure that we interpret
(explain) what we said to those who do not speak of that tongue. 1 Corinthians 14:39 Says;

* 1 Corinthians 14:39
Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.

* Meaning, do not forbid in speaking in languages to prophesy, but we must make sure we have an
interpret or we ourselves must interpret what we are saying for others {and ourselves} to
understand.

For this way would be a fitting orderly way to prophesy &/or speak in a different tongue
{language}. *genesis!

*PS, Please state your opinion - I promise I won't get offended or
offend anyone.

people in israel who are christians have swear that they began to talk in tougnes.. about how real is it I dunno nor really much care.. anyway there are many churches and many have diffrent belifes..
