And how do you feel about signs ? I mean ones you ask of God, for the word says that there are signs and wonders from Him, but this question is as I stated above, the ones we inquire of God, not the kind He initiates.

Also, I know we are not to go by our "feelings", but by faith. I just wasn't quite sure how to phrase it.

I know there is a verse that says that an evil generation asks for a sign, and this one confuses me just slightly. Matthew: 16:4
I'm pretty sure that was in reference to asking regarding the end times. Please correct me.

But even still, I myself believe it is okay to ask Him for signs.

There is the instance in the bible where Abraham asks his servant to find a wife for his son Isaac, and the servant asks God for a sign of the woman to ask him if he would like her to give his camel some water, and he would know that that was the woman. It's in Gen 24:1-67. That's the whole story. I'm sure most, if not all of you know. But the servant gets his answer way before the 67th verse lol.

I have asked God for signs, and sometimes feel as if He answers, and sometimes not. But that's not His fault, I ask too much !! I must learn to trust Him more, and hear His voice more. But when I feel tremendous fear, anxiety, and confusion closing in on me, I just can't help myself, and revert back to an immature Christian asking for milk. I think knowing that I am in a fragile state, our Heavenly Father not only gives me milk, but cookies along with it as well !! I love HIm.....

In Judges 6:37-40; Gideon used a fleece to get direction from God.
This is probably one of the more famous examples in the Bible. I think it's OK to ask God for specific direction.

Sometimes God has given me obvious answers, and sometimes... well.. not so obvious.
I think we have to be careful about saying "not answered", because sometimes the answer is "no" or "not now".
I know I myself have sometimes not seen the answer right in front of me because it wasn't the answer I was looking for.

Hello B-A-C,
You're right, I totally forgot about Gideon's request.
And I guess I worded the choice ".....sometimes feel as if He has not answered" because sometimes I just ask Him for too many signs, and He is lovingly not even acknowledging them at times. I think this is so because sometimes I ask for a specific sign if the answer is yes and another specific sign if the answer is no. And getting no response, I assume He is teaching me with love to "Sit down and be still my child."
So yes, thanks for pointing that out B-A-C.
I think to me, God answering no would have been seen by me. Everyone has their different ways of talking with Him. I think God answering "no" would fall under the category of "Yes, He has answered me" as well.

Asking for a sign is not wrong for one already full of faith. The pharisees and many religious leaders had little faith but more of an intellectual love of scripture and love of the power of their position. They coveted the wonder the people had of Jesus, and were hoping they could explain a miracle away, or even manipulate Jesus to their own ends. Just beware of asking for some grand and glorious miracle for the wrong sake, which will not please God at all.

When I began this journey I asked for signs all the time and most of the time I would get them but not the ones I was looking for because I asked questions that were not legitimate out of a misconception of spiritual things.
There are times when I can hear the Holy Spirit who is always speaking to all of us but gets drowned out by the noise of the world.
Then there are even times when I experience the love and peace of God and in "love" answers seem obvious and I can see signs of God's presence everywhere.
I know I should always seek god first but some mornings I seek coffee and will settle for a starbucks sign.
Because good coffee is a sign that God is good.

I believe asking for sign is mostly done by young Christians who have not yet learned how to hear from the Lord.
