In the Bible God teaches us that to have a proper relationship with him you must have a proper relationship with Jesus Christ his son.
So now you need to have some basic facts about Jesus.

1. Jesus Christ is not just the Son of God. He is God the Son, coequal with God the father and God the Holy Spirit.
In Col 2:9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and Jhn 14:9says “He who has seen Me has seen the Father”

2. Jesus entered the world through a miraculous virgin birth. He lived a sinless life.
In Mat 1:20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
1:21 "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins."
1:22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:
1:23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."

3. Jesus died a sacrificial death taking the punishment for the sins of the world upon
Himself. 3 days later he arose from the dead and lives forever more.
In 1Pe 3:18 “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.”

4. Jesus is the only way you may enter into heaven. He is the giver of eternal life.
In Act 4:12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

If you believe these facts all that remains to have a proper relationship with God is for you to place your faith in Jesus Christ.
But now you may be thinking “What does that mean?”

The Bible teaches that human has sinned and has broken God’s laws. No one other then Jesus has lived up to God’s standard of perfection. Romans 5:8
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

However the Bible teaches that even though we have broken these laws God still loves us and has provided a way of forgiveness and transformation to the very moral perfection of Christ.
This way was given to us when he died on the cross for our sins and paying the price for them.
In Rom 3:22 “even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;
Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

To become a Christian you must realize that you are a sinner and place your trust in Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross as payment in full for your sins.
This means your convinced there is nothing you can do to make or pay for your sins. You need to trust in Jesus’ sacrifice alone.

At this moment you are the controller of your life. You live life based on what you desire and what your moral values are. Once you trust in Jesus you no longer live in your desires and ideas but seek to live according to his principles that he teaches in the Bible.
Trusting in Jesus you then believe he knows what is best for you.
When you have sinned you should first confess it to God.
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Next after confessing our sins we should repent.

In the Bible there is a word called repentance and it means that you are taking a 180 degree turn from a life of self-direction of sin to a life that follows Christ and that wants to have righteous behavior. This doesn’t happen overnight.

Trusting in Christ is a definite decision that takes place at a definite time.
In Act 16:30 And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
16:31 So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."
When you decide to trust Christ and follow him you will decide that Christ will run your life because you trust him more then you trust yourself.

This is the most basic important information you need to having a proper relationship with God.
Jhn 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
Gal 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

For I wish you much love and luck on your personal journey with having a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
