For the choir director: A psalm of David. O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I'm far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. Psalm 139:1-3 NLT
Most men are experts at hiding from others what they are truly like as well as their true thoughts and feelings. But we can never do that with our God—nor should we want to.
In today’s scripture verses, David celebrates the truth that the Lord knows everything about him—what was on his heart, what he was thinking, what he was doing. The same is true for us today.
That sounds like the proverbial double-edged sword, doesn’t it? On one hand, we can know the joy of enjoying a relationship with God so intimate that He knows absolutely everything about us. On the other hand, there are likely many things about us we’d rather He didn’t know.
But when we consider God’s love for us—despite all the “messy” stuff—we can feel encouraged and comforted in our relationship with Him. His love for us will never change.
Prayer: Father in heaven, You know everything about me—everything I think, everything I do, everything I say. Though my sinful thoughts and actions can separate me from Your love, I want everything about me to be pleasing to You.
