A prayer of one overwhelmed with trouble, pouring out problems before the LORD. LORD, hear my prayer! Listen to my plea! Don't turn away from me in my time of distress. Bend down to listen, and answer me quickly when I call to you. Psalm 102:1-2 NLT
Life bolts from the starting blocks when you finally recognize change is needed. Then again, as long as you’re comfortable where you are, there’s little interest in looking for, adopting, or initiating change.
Repentance recognizes you’ve been running the wrong race and insists you turn around, and switch tracks.
The psalmist wasn’t saying, “Hey God, if You’re not too busy, could You give me some advice?” He wasn’t even implying that he would try to avoid asking for help by working harder. The psalmist said, “This is a cry for help!” If you want to try to figure things out on your own, God will let you. Expect less than ideal results.
The psalmist sends out a distress call. When God steps in, desperation becomes hope, crying turns to joy, and pain is treated with mercy.
When you don’t know what to do, step back and invite God’s solution. Transformation is not a do-it-yourself project. Accept God’s help.
Prayer: Dear God, I am guilty of taking control of my own desperate moments. Somehow I have convinced myself that You appreciate my efforts. When I insist on doing things my way, though, I fail to include You in the solution. Because I will need help, remind me to ask.
