Hemmed with Love - September 04, 2006
Proverbs 22:6
Recently at church I noticed the people seated in the pew in front of me. There were two young men, each a senior in high school, sitting next to each other. On either side was each set of parents, hemming these young men in with love. When something is hemmed, it will not ravel. I believe as these young men leave home to attend college, their faith will not ravel- their parents have sewn the hem of God's love around them in a most special manner.
I wondered if these two sets of parents know the strong statement of faith they have shown their sons. They have attended church faithfully and worshiped God publicly and privately. They have set an example for these young men to follow, just as God planned for parents to do. I know they have followed scripture and have trained their sons in the ways of the Lord. You can be sure when they are old, these young men will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6.
I am not sure how those high school graduates felt about being in church with their parents, or if conflicts even arose in their homes about that very subject. What was evident to me, however, was the fact they were following a Biblical command- for children to be obedient to their parents. This is truly a blessing in this day and time, with the pressures young adults face each day.
I am thankful for the joy I experienced recently at church. I saw God's Word being put into action- a sight to behold.
