Hello, I am a new member who came across talkjesus my mere coincidence (or was it).
I live in Jupiter FL and work for a Golf Course Construction company. I really enjoy my work but I enjoy more working with our youth of today. I am a layleader at my local church and consider it a great Joy and priviledge to learn and interact with the ones who can more effectively reach our young unbelieving generation.

When time allows me I also love to play Soccer. Because of my work I get to do some traveling and so I have visited some interesting places Internationally and here in the United States.

I was raised in a loving christian home in Mexico but rejected Christ at a young age because I wanted to life my own way. I regreat this mistake but thank God is the God of second chances. He called me and saved me in 1997 and I'm so thankful now I want to serve him however I can.

I look forward to getting involved here when time allows. This looks like a great forum place to learn and share.

Greetings brother Max welcome to the forums!

Glad you've joined us and by the way, not a coincidence as the Holy Spirit leads all here (and of course other precious Christian sites as well).

Hope you enjoy the fellowship

No Problem AnNi,
I live in Jupiter Florida with my best friend and lovely wife. I have two daughters who home school.

Where we live we have some major storms during the months of August through November. Yesterday we had a big storm named Ernesto but did not cause much damage. When we moved in to this area 4 years ago we did not know much about hurricanes but now we feel we are experts on the subject. Thanks to God we have been speared and only have gone with out electricity for some days.

We attend a great church where God's word is preached and the message of Chris to reach our lost world is taught. My whole family is involved in ministry. My wife works with Childern, my daughters are in the children's worship team and I work with Middle School students. We really see the hand of God working among his people at our church and we feel right at home.

We like to go to the beach and spend time together there. Collecting shells, making sand "things", swimming and just walking along the shore. We also live in an area were sea turtles come and lay their eggs. During the dark hours in the summer the little trutles come out from the sand and try to make it to the ocean. We have seen this little ones running towards the water and can only marvel at God's creation.

I thank God every day for his gifts and blessings towards my family. He is awesome and a great heavenly Father.

Thanks Chad. I shuld have put a smily face after my coinsidence comment "(or was it)". I too believe that we are lead by God's Spirit and God is in all of the details of our lives and I love Him for that.

Thank you!

But, why do you home-school you children? Is this allowed in Florida? (In Germany it's not allowed and I see no reason in home-schooling, that's why I ask)

We decided to home school mainly because we felt God calling us to do this. There are some benefits to home schooling. The subjects we teach our children only take 3-4 hours of the day to go over. We also teach them at much accelerated level than what they would be learning in a public school. We can monitor their learning better and adjust the teaching styles to each student for maximum learning. Our schools in Florida are not very good. These are just a few items that helped us make the decision.

Home schooling is legal here in the United States and different states have different rules as to how you can do it. For instance here in Flordia we have to test our girls at the end of the school year in all primary subjects..math, writting, reading, spelling, history, science...We could also choose not to test and have them evaluated by a professional to make sure they are lerning at their age level.

This works really well for my family and we see God's blessings by this choice. I hope this gives you an Idea about home school.

Are you required to learn another language in your school?

In Germany we have a very complicated school system, but everyone is required to learn english

The first 4 school years (classes 1 to 4) are the same for all kids - you don't learn a language in these classes

Then the teacher says where the kids can go
"Gymnasium" (~ high school) (best school)
"Realschule" (~modern secondary school) ("normal" school)
"Hauptschule"(~secondary school) (not very good school)

On the Hauptschule (the school everyone can go) you learn english, but you don't have the choice to learn another language(french, spanish, latin,..) - the school takes 5 years (classes 5 to 9) and then they could try to get a training (for job) - but it's very difficult with this graduation
(On this school you needn't do anything, it's really easy - at the end you have a test)

The Realschule is the school most kids are able to go, everyone learns english and in class 7 or 8 (I'm not sure which class, I'm sorry), you had to decide if you learn french, cooking and sewing or technical things(sawing, grinding,... (wood and metal)) - this school takes 6 years and at the end you have a demanding test you need to learn for

The Gymnasium is the highest-level school, there you need to learn 2 foreign languages - everyone learns english and then most schools have french, some have latin, but it depends on the school what you learn and which possibilities you have. In my school you had french ad the second one. In the 9th class you had to choose one extra-subject: latin or science (other schools have spanish/french and science) and in the 10th class you do a test like on the Realschule - and so you have the same certificate if you'd like to leave school now or go to another school
The Gymnasium takes 9 years - so if you chose this you have to go to school 13 years. At the end of these 13 years you have a big test, called ABI and if you got it you are allowed to study at university

But there are more schools you can go to with the Realschul(e)-certificate or after the 10th class Gymnasium: technical Gymnasium (where I am), economy-Gymnasium, alimentation-Gymnasium, language-Gymnasium, biological-chemistry-Gymnasium, musical Gymnasium,...
these schools are itemized for a few subjects, our school(technical) is it e.g. for maths, physics, chemistry and informatics/computer science
the students from the Realschule had to learn french or spanish in their last 3 years at school and have to possibility not to learn english any more
and after these 3 more years on this school we do the ABI, too, but there are some differences beetween our ABI and the normal ABI

I hope you understand everything - it's complicated, I know, but you are free to ask, if not
