Holding on tight to God

Hi everyone,

Been a while since I posted.
My question is about holding onto God.
I used to worry about my relationship with God (A LOT). I read the word and prayed regularly but felt at odds with God. I felt forgotten about. Through prayer and the reading of scripture, I came to the realization that I was being hard on myself and fighting for a relationship with God that I already have. I was also being pushy with God, I wanted him to show me his plan for me but I wanted it in my time, not His.

Since then ...

I stopped pushing so hard and allowed myself to have faith in the Gospel. Jesus loves me, God loves me. I am where I am at in my life for a reason and I can't expect God to show me his plan for me overnight.

A year has passed..

In ways my faith is stronger. I pray regularly but feel better about that relationship with God. My family has church every week (we live in a remote area outside of US). I can really feel God when we come together and read scripture and sing hymns and talk about the Word. In other ways I feel like I have fallen further away. I dont read the bible regularly, I read scriptures here and there. I am poorer than I've ever been and still am waiting for Gods plan..

I guess my question is...what is the best way for us to hold onto God without getting in the way of His work or on the other extreme without falling away.

Hi, I'm also keen to hear what other believers say on this topic.
What has come to mind for me, is beginning each day with the Lord. Sometimes that may mean waking up earlier than one might ordinarily choose to and being there to spend time with Him...

Romans 12:1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.

I think persevering in this may be important....offering ourselves, our time, our resources that Hes blessed us with....beginning with seeking God first thing.

Also being thankful, and also being honest with Him about everything.

Also, Daniel sought the Lord morning, noon and evening in a a day....so perhaps pausing as he did, is helpful as a reminder. I'm learning too....I'm sure a friend said to me that if they weren't sure what to do they would start something and invite the Lord to guide them, and trust that He would.....being thankful and growing in trust seem key.

Also, committing plans to the Lord....proverbs 16:3 (I hope a link appears).

Wow, thank you so much for the thoughtful response! I think you are right, getting up in the morning to spend time with God and read my bible has always been so good for me in the past.

I needed reminding of this too....thank you Lord for being a wonderful teacher!!

That reminds me, it could be helpful to put favourite verses up around the home.....
