The daily decisions Solomon made to follow God, or to follow his own plans, had everything to do with his ability to serve God and His people. If he sought God with all of his heart and soul, he would be prepared to build God’s temple and to lead God’s people in worship. The consequences for his daily decisions were extremely serious.
You may not have as much on the line as Solomon, but your ability to discern God’s leadership in your life, to obey God’s commands, and to serve others has everything to do with your inner life. If you abandon your soul through immersion in busy projects and one more thing to do, you’ll lose the inner capacity to hear God and will lack the spiritual resources others will need. If your heart is turned toward what you desire, you’ll likely miss the opportunities God has prepared for you.
If you care for your soul and direct your desires toward God, then you will be prepared to act on His behalf, and many will benefit from your obedience.
Prayer: Lord, guard my soul and direct my heart toward what You desire.
