do some of you other forum members cut your childrens hair yourself at home to save money ? my sister, who has a boy and a girl, wants to try home haircut in the future and asked me about suggestions. does someone know makover sites online ? or a good book about that topic ?

I think barbering is a learned skill not to be gained at the expense of family members.

Tell you sister to start practicing on their hair while they are children gudrunlieser, that way by time they are old enough to care, she will be a pro barber

I learned to cut Fellowservants hair right after we married, and then our sons...other than a few ear clippings...and some baseball cap cover-ups .. they survived!

Don't say that out Loud I've been cutting my future mate's hair for some time now. Let just say each cut is a new experience. My mom use to cut my dad's hair so I wanted to follow the tradition. He's due for a cut this month.

She can find how to videos on youtube or about articles.

I was interested in cosmetology school a long time ago, but when I saw the price and did research, I realized it's just a monopolized sector. I don't give money to anyone if I can do the job myself. Our ancestors did they own hair, women in the village sat around and braided each other hair. I've been doing my own hair forever, I learn to braid my dolls hair, now I cut my own hair and I do extensions for others. I don't touch chemicals.

My advice if she has shaky hands start off cutting half inch at a time to 1inch. Buy a cheap doll ( with cabbage patch head size ) and practice holding the hair and cutting at difference angles. Angles give you different looks, it can reduce body, increase body with layers etc.
Thrift store might have dolls. She can also buy a mannequin head new or used ( this can be hard to find, cause people use their old one for cutting. ) Or buy a cheap wig and practice on that. She can research " How to make a wig stand " on you tube and go from there.

If she's trimming the ends she'll be find, but if she has shaky hands practice first. And make sure those kids stay still, give them a book to read or set a chair in front the tv.

You bet! When I saw what my well meaning but untrained wife did to our poor defenseless dog when she first started barbering, I said "You're not coming near me with those shears, no way!" LOL!
