Hi Everyone!
So how can someone who was treated terribly (abused) by their parents find it within themselves to honor them?
Is there a passage in the Bible to cover this?
Thanks guys.

Our example is Christ ... HE was being crucified and prayed this.
Luk 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
We are only human i dont know if i could pray such a thing. This is where learning to the point of understanding who Jesus is what He is about. Maybe praying for their salvation could set you in the direction of honoring them . My opinion is only my opinion I would tell my self God says to honor my parents God they were abusive and ugly to me how can i learn to honor as unto You? There is a difference between sharing our hurts and our sins with each other and bad mouthing some one.
Where do you want to live, do you want to relive those pains or put them behind you? learning to forgive deep hurts is not a easy task. We can start by not reliving them .. For example i would not allow abusive parents to abuse the grandchildren, i would not give them the opportunity . The line between forgiveness and forgetting is not straight. We can make the choice to do as He has directed this can and often is a slow process . Honoring them does not mean you put yourself in harms way .
Lord guide Josephine's heart to You letting the cares of ugly parents fall to the wayside help her to learn of You . One day at a time

I'm only human, I'm just a woman
Help me believe in what I could be and all that I am
Show me the stairway I have to climb
Lord, for my sake teach me to take one day at a time

One day at a time, sweet Jesus
That's all I'm asking from You
Just give me the strength to do everyday
What I have to do

Reba1,
Thank you for your advice and for the beautiful prayer you shared with me.
I have forgiven and I'm now trying to rebuild that relationship.
