The officer assisting the king said to the man of God, "That couldn't happen even if the LORD opened the windows of heaven!" But Elisha replied, "You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won't be able to eat any of it!" 2 Kings 7:2 NLT
The officer didn’t believe God could save his people, and it’s hard to blame him. The city was surrounded and the odds were not in his army’s favor. Yet, Elisha assured a deliverance the officer believed to be impossible. While the officer’s fate is quite extreme, there is a far-reaching lesson for today as well. Failing to trust in God will rob you of the joy of deliverance.
What are you worried about today? Is there something big and important that demands your full attention? These are the kinds of things to trust to God’s care, looking up to the horizon for His deliverance and provision.
It’s not easy to trust God with your most important, if not most frightening, challenges, but you will grow in faith as you see Him provide time and time again. The hope of yesterday’s deliverance can help you persevere and endure in the face of tomorrow’s worries.
