How To Prepare For A Challenge

Paul and Barnabas also appointed elders in every church. With prayer and fasting, they turned the elders over to the care of the Lord, in whom they had put their trust. Acts 14:23 NLT

The recently planted churches in the apostle Paul’s time faced adversity and even physical harm. As their newly appointed leaders prepared to guide their churches through difficult, if not dangerous, times, Paul and Barnabas were preparing to leave town. What could Paul and Barnabas pass on to them to help them endure the trials before them?

What if the odds you’re facing are so steep that you can only rest in God’s guidance and provision? When facing a challenge, it’s tempting to work overtime on plans and on accumulating wisdom. But prayer and fasting take the situation out of your hands and place the future in God’s hands.

In your weakness and emptiness, you can acknowledge that God is the source of your strength and hope. There’s no way you can overcome everything set against you based on your own resources. It’s far better to start off completely relying on God than to fail and seek Him as a last resort!

Prayer: Jesus, I trust that You can lead me through adversity and the seemingly hopeless challenges of today.
