Hello,
I am in the process of repenting. I have been reading the Bible for three (is this the fourth day?) days now. I have been reading non stop and quit watching television, or at least the television shows I knew were ungodly and demonic. I'm open to watching cooking shows but for some reason, I just haven't got the time or feel like it. I have not watch television for 3 days now and been listening to Christian music. How long does the process of repenting? I'm making an effort to memorize scriptures and Jesus' commands.

Also, is it absolute necessary to be baptize to receive the Holy spirit? Like, if I never ever get baptized will it hinder me from receiving the Holy Spirit? I tried praying for it too although I dont really expect to just woke up one day, and walk in any random church and boom! Just receive it.

Hello @SmileyJanell

It takes as long as it takes. Many years ago [1976] now my wife and I went to a church meeting together for the first time and repented. Ahhh, the Holy Ghost? Two days later my wife made me very envious as she received the gift of the Holy Ghost. I still had to lose something and even then in those early days I really in my heart knew what it was. Although it was hard for me I knew what needed to be done. I kept working at and would go down to the altar to pray and to be prayed for at every opportunity...

Six weeks after my wife I received the gift of the Holy Ghost. What was in my way? I was! I needed to surrender completely and I needed God's help even to do that:

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: " Matt 7:7

How long do we ask? For as long as is necessary! How often do we ask? As often as is necessary!

I was unable to give up that which greatly hindered me. God helped because I kept on asking for help:

"And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.

And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.

And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me."

And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.

And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved." Gen 32: 24-30

Thanks. I'll help for help but what about baptize?

Hello @SmileyJanell

Regarding baptism, I'm guessing you mean water baptism? If so, why wouldn't you want to get baptized? It's a beautiful experience. Christ commands us to do it and even He did it to set an example.

Matthew 3

The Baptism of Jesus
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.

16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of Goddescending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

@SmileyJanell Lots of argument among people about water baptism, but don't let such arguments one way or the other put you off. Simply as @Chad illustrates in his post, follow the example of Jesus. Better understanding of it, if needed, can come later. For now just follow the Lord's example. In that you surely cannot go wrong.

I feel water baptism is very vital for a child of God because it identifies us with Christ. We are his followers and we should follow his example and fall in his footsteps.

If you want to receive the holy spirit, ask your heavenly father. He will grant you your desire. But I repeat, water baptism is vital.Baptism and the holyspiriit go hand in hand.

I seem to be getting in my own way spiritually. I have been asking God to help me and to bring people in my life who will encourage me to be at my best. I do believe that I have been given the Spirit of God, but I have grieved it.

Please don't do that, as the spirit of God can come before or after baptism.

It depends on your circumstances.
