4Given: Think for a moment about the meaning behind the Avatar you have chosen. Christianity is about growing spiritually. You are a brand new Christian (barely three months old). When you asked Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, you were, in effect, pulling up to God's nurturing pump and He began to pour His strength into you. However, new believers do not start out with full tanks of nurturing. That's why God instituted the discipleship process wherein new believers connect with folks who have been around for awhile and learn from them and draw strength from them.

I came to Christ in 1983. It took me a couple of years to grow to the point where I realized that God wanted me to change churches. I made the change and soon connected with a man who began mentoring me. We became friends. I needed transportation. He began to meet that need. I learned early on that whenever I rode with this man, sooner or later the conversation was going to be about the Lord. I learned a lot during those rides.

However strong I am in my Christian walk today is due in great measure to that man and his reaching out to a very thirsty new believer. Though I don't get to see him as much now, I still consider him my mentor.Find yourself a mentor in your church. Pray that God will put that person in your life. Latch on to him/her and get ready for an exciting and enjoyable ride as you grow and gain strength in the Lord.
