“I heard and my inward parts trembled,
At the sound my lips quivered.
Decay enters my bones,
And in my place I tremble.
Because I must wait quietly for the day of distress,
For the people to arise who will invade us.
Though the fig tree should not blossom
And there be no fruit on the vines,
Though the yield of the olive should fail
And the fields produce no food,
Though the flock should be cut off from the fold
And there be no cattle in the stalls,
Yet I will exult in the Lord,
I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.
The Lord God is my strength,
And He has made my feet like hinds’ feet,
And makes me walk on my high places.” (Habakkuk 3:16-19 NASB1995)

I personally am of the belief that my nation, the United States of America, has already been invaded, and that we are presently under a coup, and that as a nation we are being judged by Almighty God because, as a nation, we profess to be one nation under God, and that in God we place our trust (as seen in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and on our automobile license plates), and yet, as a nation, we do not honor God. We, as a nation, do not worship God in truth and in righteousness.

There is a minority of Christians in the USA who do take God and his word seriously, who do worship him in spirit and in truth, whose lives are surrendered to the Lord, to walking in obedience to his commands in holy living and no longer in sin, and who are serving the Lord with our lives in doing the will of God. But we are in the minority, not the majority. Now probably close to 70% of our population profess faith in Jesus Christ, but the majority are giving lip service only to God, and are not surrendered to God.

And this can be seen in what is being taught by the majority in the gatherings of the majority of what are called “churches” here in America, and by the things that “Christians” write about on the internet, and by the primary gospel being taught on the internet, and by the sermons of most preachers that you hear on the radio, television, and on the internet, or that you read in books that they authored, etc. There is not much of a difference between “the church” and the world in today’s society and culture.

Few, it seems, are teaching the message of the gospel the way in which Jesus taught it and that his New Testament apostles taught it, if taught in its appropriate and biblical context. The majority, it seems, have diluted and altered the gospel of Christ to make it more attractive and less offensive to the world and to human flesh. And so they have reduced faith in Jesus to a mere profession of faith in Jesus Christ but minus them dying to sin and now walking in obedience to the Lord’s commands, in practice, as God requires.

But Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

By God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

But since it appears that the majority have gone the way of the world and of human flesh and worldly culture, and they are rejecting the gospel message that Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught, in the correct context, in favor of altered “gospel” messages which appeal to human flesh, and the majority are not walking by faith in the commandments of God, but are living worldly lives, and so they are blending in with the culture, instead of coming out and being separate, I believe America is being judged by God.

But, as those who are genuine followers of Jesus Christ, who make him Lord (Owner-Master) of our lives, who live to do what pleases God, and not to please our sinful flesh, who are dying to sin daily, by the Spirit, and who are walking in obedience to his commands, in practice, in the power of God, we should not be shaken by what is already here and what is yet to come in the way of God’s judgments on our nations and on the world, as a whole. Our faith should not depend on our circumstances, but on God and on his word.

And that faith should be evidenced in how we live, in practice, in the things that we do and say, in how we treat other people, and in how we treat God. And we should all be ministers of the gospel of Christ to the people of this world, but we must make certain that the gospel we are sharing is the biblical gospel that Jesus taught and that his New Testament apostles taught, in context, so that we are not guilty of feeding people with lies and giving them false hopes. For the truth is what sets people free from sin.

As the Deer

By Martin J. Nystrom
Based off Psalm 42:1

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You

You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
