If God knew people would sin why did He make them?

This is a simple question and we are tempted to answer it simply by saying, "Why not? Why shouldn't God make people if He knows they are going to sin?" But, such an answer isn't very satisfying. We could always say we don't know why God would do this since He is infinite and we are not and His ways are not our ways. But this answer also leaves us a bit empty. So, let's see if we can answer the question by analogy.

When parents have children they know that their kids will eventually act in sinful and even harmful ways. Yet, that doesn't stop them from having children. Why? First of all, it is worth the risk of their rebellion to bring them into the world. Second, the nature of love is to give and by having children the parents can better express their love. Third, just because the children will sin and rebel doesn't mean they shouldn't exist. Fourth, children have their own wills and can freely choose to rebel. Knowing this parents all over the world still have children. As you can see, analogies help us to make sense of things, but they can't answer every question. That is why we must go to God's word for more insight.

The Bible tells us that God is love and that He sacrificed His Son on our behalf. The greatest act of love is to sacrifice one's own life for another (John 15:13). In a very real sense, God has performed the greatest act of love in sacrificing Himself (Remember, Jesus is God in flesh - John 1:1,14). Since God is love and love sacrifices, God has now manifested the greatest love by dying for us. In this, God is glorified. But, without sin in the world, there would be no way to demonstrate the greatest act of love -- which is self-sacrifice. So, perhaps God allowed sin in the world so that He could demonstrate the greatest act of love.

Furthermore, in this self-sacrifice God demonstrates the perfection of His holiness, the sinfulness of sin, the proof of God's righteousness, the victory over the evil one, and the guarantee of the saved with whom He can shed His love and glory forever. In this, God is glorified.

We could come up with a variety of possible reasons why God made people knowing they would sin and we probably can never fully answer this. But, knowing that they would sin is no reason that God shouldn't make them, especially if His plan includes the acts of sinners so that others would be redeemed.

I truly believe that God although all knowing He is....maybe he chooses to not know what we will do in the end, further giving Him praise that our God is the almighty of this universe He created...understanding that God is the Alpha and Omega and the absolute authority of this universe is knowing that He can do ANYTHING if He wills it...luckily we already know a lot about His will because He wrote a letter to us which is of course the words of the Bible. He would like nothing more than for all of us to accept salvation through Christ...knowing a lot will refuse that offer in some way shouldn't affect the fact that in the end, they will know they were still given a chance at eternal life with Him.

I like to think of from the standpoint that (1) Nothing that happens is ever beyond His ability to deal with (thus sound validation for both Chad's and PrayerWarr1or's points), and (2) I am sure glad he did give me this chance to learn and to know life.

He was completely unselfish about it, not at all holding back good from me over concerns about how I might reflect upon Him. That is something to be appreciated. His love willingly takes that kind of responsibility, and because it does, I have a chance to learn His love.

carm is great.
I have always questioned us and today I still have never been satisfied but it's one of those questions that we may have the answer too which is completely fine. God does give us a choice but it still does bother me to this day. We have a choice so that we are not robots because that is not true love and a true relationship.

Below brother touched on it, but I haven't seen what is the essential in Love, when we talk of it as the brother did below.

He loves people so much that He gave them a option, Jesus or their sins.

Not that God made man to sin, rather allowed his creation the choice to do so. Understanding this one must continue to remember that God is Love.

God choose to come in the flesh, and be the perfect sacrifice as an act of Love. Did He have to do this?

Christ Jesus choose as we see in Gethsemane (Mark 14:36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.) on following through and submitted to the will of the Father. We can even go prior to this when Satan tempted Christ Jesus. The possibility to sin was available, but He did not!

This is but an example that what is required on our parts is a voluntarily action. This being the case, one must also then have the ability to choose the opposite, requiring the existence contrary to a voluntary action/submission which is rebellion. In other words sin. One could almost say, that sin was a necessary option in order for us to know the true meaning of Love. A Love freely given, received, and returned. Priceless through the Sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross.

Even in what we see as a perfect state of Adam & Eve, and even the fallen angels the choice was to one turn away from God's Perfect Love. This means for the non-believer continuing in this state of sin/rebellion by choosing to reject Christ Jesus and thereby God's Love, which is an individual choice. One I pray and hope they all will reconsider.

This is only my take on the why.

Thanks for the post Chad.

  • He created us.
  • He loves his creation.
  • He devised a perfect and final plan for us to be in his realm for all eternity.

Blessings in the Lord Jesus;

God made us for the purpose to soulfully serve Him; nothing less and nothing more; to serve Him.
When we take our heart off Him and look upon the world, seeking its glory and treasures and gold, we get ourselves into trouble because it pulls us away from God.
"The Preacher" through all his years and observations came to the totally conclusion that everything put before us, outside of our heart on God, is put here before us for vanity and vexation of spirit.
God wants to know our loyalty, our determination, our consistency, to serve only Him.
He loves us and He wants us to love only Him, and dedicate our lives to serving only Him.
He lives; because He is alive within us.
Are we ALL IN? or still struggling with worldly lust of vanities and vexations of spirit.
All praise, honor, and glory be to God. Amen.
