“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.’” (John 14:15,23-24 NASB1995)

To love Jesus requires that we obey his commandments to us, that we keep his word, as a matter of life practice. For if we do not obey him, in practice, we do not love him, we do not know him, we are not in fellowship with him, and we do not have salvation from sin nor eternal life with God. And this is not speaking of absolute perfection here, but lack of perfection is never to be used as an excuse for deliberate and habitual sin. For if sin is what we practice, and not obedience, we will not inherit eternal life with God.

For Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

But, in today’s culture, so many people who profess faith in Jesus Christ are following after a “gospel” created in the minds of human beings which gives them carte blanche (complete freedom) to keep living in sin while professing Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of their lives. Rather than removing the unrepentant sinners from their gatherings, they embrace them, and they coddle them in their sins, instead. And so they give them the idea that their sins do not matter to God and will not impact their eternal security. Lie!

So many people today who profess faith in Jesus Christ are the selfish, the self-indulgent, and the addicted to sexual sin and to immorality. Although some of them claim they want freedom from their sexual idolatry, they continue on a sinful course. For, by nature, they are the malicious, deceivers, manipulators, morally unclean, liars, untrustworthy egocentrics who fake their Christianity and who use and abuse other people to their advantage. For their addiction is their god who they worship, and not God/Jesus Christ.

Not all are like that, but many are. And they feel they have the freedom to remain in addiction to sin. For so many preachers and teachers of The Word are teaching the Scriptures out of context, and they are making them say what they do not say if taught in context, and they are twisting them to appease sinful flesh and to remove all requirements of God for us to die to sin and to walk in obedience to his commands in holy living. And so they are giving the people carte blanche to continue in sin, guilt free, while promising them salvation from sin and eternal life with God in heaven. Big Lie!

And the thing of it is is that these false teachers of a false (altered) gospel have spread their lies far and wide, and their false gospel has now gained much popularity among the people. So those of us who are still teaching the gospel taught by Jesus, and by his New Testament apostles, in the correct biblical context, are now in the minority. And the masses are being trained to ignore us, under the guise that we are teaching “works salvation.” But what we are teaching is what Jesus and his apostles taught in the Scriptures.

For by God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

As the Deer

By Martin J. Nystrom
Based off Psalm 42:1

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You

You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
