If We Neglect So Great a Salvation

“For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it. For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty, how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?” (Hebrews 2:1-3 NASB’95)

Jesus Christ, who is God, who has always been with God, and who is our creator God, and who is the only begotten Son of God, left his throne in heaven, came to the earth, and was born as a baby to a human mother, conceived of the Holy Spirit, and not of man. So he was not born with a sin nature as we are, and he never once sinned against God. For he came to the earth ultimately to be our sacrificial lamb on that cross in order to put our sins to death with him so we will now die to sin and obey his commands.

By God-persuaded faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to God and to his righteousness in walks of obedience to his commands. Thus, sin is to no longer be allowed by us to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God.

[Isaiah 53:1-12; Matthew 26:26-29; Luke 17:25; John 1:1-36; John 6:35-58; John 8:24,58; John 10:27-33; John 20:28-29; Romans 5:8; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 9:5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-32; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8; Ephesians 2:8-10; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 2:9; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:1-14; Hebrews 2:14-15; Hebrews 4:15; 1 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Peter 1:1]

It was the same under the Old Covenant, which is the point with this passage of Scripture, and which is repeated for us in 1 Corinthians 10:1-22, Hebrews 3:1-19, and Hebrews 4:1-13. Those who made sin their practice and who did not obey God in practice, during the time that the Israelites wandered in the wilderness, were put to death by God in the wilderness. They did not get to go into the promised land, and they did not get to enter into God’s eternal rest (salvation from sin and eternal life with God).

And they serve as an example to us of what we ought not to do so that we don’t end up where they did, and so that we don’t crave the same evil things as they did. We are not to be idolaters, revelers, drunkards, those addicted to immoral acts, those who test and try the Lord, and those who grumble against God, etc. Sin must no longer be our practice, but righteousness, and godly and moral living, and obedience to our Lord’s commands are to be what we practice. For faith = obedience, and disobedience = unbelief.

So, whether under the Old Covenant or under the New Covenant, sin must not be our practice, but obedience to God must be our practice. For we don’t “get saved” and now we are good to go to heaven regardless of how we live. For how we live determines whether or not our faith is from God and if it is the kind of faith which insures salvation from sin and eternal life with God. And this is not “works salvation.” This is living out the salvation already provided for us via Jesus’ death and his resurrection, in the power of God.

And for this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we should have heard, if we heard the truth of the gospel taught, which not many are teaching anymore here in America. For if we drift away from the truth that Jesus taught, and that his New Testament apostles taught, as taught in the correct context, and so we end up living for ourselves, living in sinful practices, and not in walks of obedience to our Lord and to his commands, then heaven is not secured for us. We will not inherit eternal life with God.

So, to neglect so great a salvation has to do with us following after lies and us not dying with Christ to sin, and us not walking in obedience to our Lord’s commands, which are necessary components of faith which saves. For faith in Jesus Christ is not of our own doing, so we don’t get to choose what it looks like. God does. And his word describes faith, which is of God, and which is genuine, as resulting in us dying with Christ to sin and us now walking in obedience to God’s commands, in practice, by the Spirit.

We will be judged by our works (deeds). And many will stand before the Lord on the day of judgment, proclaiming him as “Lord” and confessing all they believed they did in his name, and he will say to them, “I never knew you. Depart from me you workers of lawlessness.” For he said that not everyone who says to him, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God the Father. So obedience to God and the forsaking of sinful practices are part of faith which saves.

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 1:12-13; John 6:44; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 2:6-8; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:5-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10]

As the Deer

By Martin J. Nystrom
Based off Psalm 42:1

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You

You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You

If We Neglect So Great a Salvation
An Original Work / April 9, 2025

Jesus existed always in the mind and soul of our Abba Father/Daddy, Jehovah. And 2000 years ago He revealed His Son to us in Living out His heart and mind on His Son. And it became the Living Word of our Creation. But to really see the Greatness of our Salvation we all need Revelation. To step away from our religious mindset and ask our Daddy about His Salvation and not what we want it to be in making it "our thoughts and opinions" we try to Live. But it is not working.
