I really am

I'm selfish, self-centred, not particularly nice to my wife (I don't mean I physically abuse her, I'd NEVER do that. I just mean I'm so wrapped up in my own problems that I sometimes don't know she's even there), and miserable most of the time

I asked Jesus into my life 20 years ago but nothing seems to have changed. I recently asked him again......so here's hoping

I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me

Thanks,

Mark

Welcome to the forums brother.
I pray you are blessed by your time here. And be of good courage. The Lord is with you. And He loves you very much.

hi horrible person  I am a horrible person too, selfish, self-centered, not particularly nice to my husband and kids all the time. . .Welcome to Talk Jesus  God bless you and lead you into fellowship with all of us, who are unworthy to make it without Gods help in our life  hope you will find friends here soon

It sounds like you are at a place of conviction. "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

Please read the link that teraside has provided. I just read it and it is very good.

Realizing we are sinners is a crucial step to becoming saved. No one can be saved unless they realize first that they are trapped in sin.

God loves you and is drawing you to Himself. I'm not sure how far along you are in the process, but I'm sure of this: God loves you and He wants you.
He loves you unconditionally.

Hello Mark,

It is brave of you to confront your issues. All of us have felt this way at some time in our lives.Yiu may not realise it but you are saying how much you love your wife as you turn to God in your time of need. Just presevere with your prayer.Talk with your wife. She will share the issues you are experiencing.I am sure you are not a horrible person and I pray this time of reflection will see the opening of a new chapter in your life, selfless, kind and giving.May God bless you and your family.

hello my brother. i am new here to. as for advice. read the word of god. ask for wisdom and start doing nice things to help people. we are all horrible people and full of garbage from head to toe. but our lord is a merciful and loving king.

we can ask jesus into our heart but that means to open our heart to him. not just saying the words and going on with everyday life. it means realizing that we need to learn and always have more to learn.

Hey MarkydeSad

Welcome to Talk Jesus, where many of us have been wounded in the past. We are all here to praise the Lord and help lift each other up in prayer and through the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.

Twenty years is a long time to be struggling with faith. I know this, because it has been twenty years for me too. I really didn't find the Lord until last year, or rather the Lord didn't reveal Himself to me, until last year. Invite Him into your heart and have patience. If you want Him so much, it seems to me that He wants you.

You turned to a very good Christian site, non denominational and speaking only the Word of the Lord. No doctrines to stumble over!!!

Here is a piece of Scripture that you can meditate on.

# Luke 11:13
If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

It seems that you really want the Lord in your life. Have patience and you will endure.

Psalm 72:17
May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. All nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed.

Colossians 1
And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Anyway, I hope that you come to feel the joy of knowing the Lord. He is always within reach. Patience and endurance will bring you to Him.

Amen and love in Christ Jesus:Pixie:sun:  :rainbow:

Thanks very much for all your advice and encouragement

I really do appreciate it!

May God bless you all!!! :shade:

A different perspective

I'm not sure whether or not I am qualified to give you advice. I am a struggling Christian myself. I don't struggle with who Christ is or with accepting the salvation...but living the *life* ...that's hard. I won't pretend that it's simple or easy or that any changes happen overnight.

However, I found it got a lot easier once it was put into perspective for me by the following bit:

Not too long ago, I pestered the dickens out of a Christian friend for an explanation of why my own life wasn't "fixed" now that I had accepted Jesus.

One day she handed me a 3x5 note card with the following information on it:

"God loved you so much that He was persecuted, betrayed, beaten, whipped, spit upon, stabbed, and hung on a pole in the desert heat till he died to pay the wages of your sin. Then he went down to Hell, fought the Devil (and won), redeemed the dead who were waiting, and came back to life so that people could see Him and know that He was who He claimed to be that that He'd fulfilled His promises."

The other side of the card simply said:

"Your turn."

---

Jesus never left you after the first time you asked him into your life, Mark. He's just been wandering around with you for the past 20 years, patiently waiting for the day when you will start *applying* any of the instructions He left for you in that big thick book called the Bible for how to live a happier, healthier, holier life.

If you need a place to start, my favorite book is Romans.

Thanks for your words of wisdom, Janette

Now there's an image - Jesus wandering around after me for the last 20 years!!

All I ever really needed to do was tap the pillion seat of my metaphorical motorbike, and he would have jumped on for the ride! :shade:

I've never yet read 'Romans', so on your recommendation I'll give it a go

Thanks again!!

Brother Mark Welcome!! Praise the Lord for leading you here. I hope that you will find this totally Holy Spirit driven place as helpful and refueling as I do. All the things that you said in your first message Selfish self centered?? Well I too have those problems and not that they ever go away as far as I know but as long as I Let the Lord be the piolet of my life and I follow Him instead of Him following me around trying to get my attention, as long as I let Him lead and do the best I can possibly do each day...I tell ya that things have gotten very good. I find it very, very , VERY important to have my Christian Brothers and Sisters around me maybe I can't 24 7 but between my prayers of submitting myself willingly each morning grabing a bite of the word at some point each day and thinking about it for a bit and usually God takes care of the rest and I more then not even in the most unexpected places and unexpected times end up having Christian fellowship that keeps me on track if I'm vering away and the Holy Spirit I'm not hearing His still small voice. This place, Talk Jesus has been just incredible and I am in awe of how strong the presence of the Holy Spirit is here.
We do need to be willing and make an effort but one thing from MY experiance is I yeah Me was trying to fix me and therefore not letting the Holy Spirit get in and through me as soon as I was at the end of me and had nothing more I could think of to try ...Vwola God brought me to my knees and I surrendered and things have changed in my life more than a 100 fold.
Welcome I look forward to continued fellowship with you here Brother Mark.
God Bless, Love, Peace, and Joy,
