In Excess

- July 18, 2005

"Let me fall into the hands of the Lord, for His mercy is very great." I Chronicles 21:13b

Webster's dictionary defines excess as "surplus", or "more than is needed". This really defines many areas that exist in our society today. We have an overabundance of "things" which clutter our lives, too much fat and too many carbs in our eating habits, too much free time for TV watching or computer surfing, and too much busyness robbing us of quality family time. Things in excess are not beneficial, from feeding my roses with too much fertilizer, to overzealous physical exercises which can cause sore muscles or torn ligaments. Yes, our lives carry excessive amounts of "stuff" -from the physical, to emotional burdens, to social obligations.

In the spiritual realm, however, there is no such thing as "more than is needed" when referring to God's love for us. His mercy, grace and forgiveness are given in great, generous heaps with enough left over to spill out of us. His Word is overflowing with nuggets of gold for us to discover, and His Holy Presence is ever surrounding and engulfing us. Thank God, His gifts to us are above and beyond all we could imagine, for He loves us so much! What a mighty God we serve.

Godliness and Spiritual Gifts.

Godliness and Spiritual Gifts.

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 1 Timothy 6:6-7

Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. 1 Corinthians 14:1

In  of JESUS the Christ, Our LORD, the ONLY begotten Son of GOD.
